Do the air currents (mirage) explain why you can't have a longer shutter time with a lower ISO ? Also is it worth double the price for a f/6.3 500mm vs. f/8 500mm mirror lens ?
@migueldesa00314 жыл бұрын
Well, between 500 and 800mm it depends on your needs. A shorter shutter will avoid unwanted shaking on the image, that amount of zoom it's a very big problem.

Try to get a screw in lens hood, or sun shade. With the mirror lens, you want to avoid unfocused light going straight through. I have a 500mm f/8, with a Ø72mm metal lens hood. It hugely improves the contrast. Without hood: difficult to get a usable contrast after post processing. With hood: almost usable picture without post processing. The reduced contrast looks like atmospheric haze, but when you get the same haze at close ups, you realize it's caused by the lens. My lens hood, is approximately the length of the lens, I think that's about how long you want. It looks like the lens is twice as long, while the overall weight is not much different. I think a lens hood should be included with minor lenses, because it is significant to improve contrast, at least the shops should recommend one as accessory by default.

The Nikon p1000 just for the simplicity of use (auto focus and stuff). Still a small sensor... If I didn't have any camera, very small budget, and I love to photograph birds (just an example) the P1000 looks like a good deal!

Doesnt the Canon have a manual focus switch on the body?
@migueldesa00312 жыл бұрын
Hi Samuel! The one I used on this doesn't have. But it doesn't matter. First, because the camera will try to add all the info that it can in to the metadata, and second, it isn't the focus the problem... It is the focal length and aperture. The 2x adapter is taking 0 info from the lens and multiplying it, has 0x2=error (because aperture or focal length cannot be 0) At least it is what I think it is doing.... As just cutting the communication between de doubler and the camera fix it.

Do you recommend this to astrophotography? Or it's better a telescope with mirrors like the Maksutov?
@migueldesa00315 жыл бұрын
Hi! You made me Google it for info 🤔😅 for the moon this lens is not bad. For a deep space the telescope has more an advantage as it has more aperture (f15) as well more zoom (2700mm). But of course the telescope will need an adaptor for the camera, and it will be be a little bit harder to find a compatible star tracker, that it's advisable on this type of Deep Space Photography. P. S. I used the Sky Watcher 180mm telescope as reference

Jaja, I have a Canon T6, with the T ring and my telescope, is a reflector 150/750, but I can't focus directly, with protection mode just with 25mm ocular, I'm thinking in buy this lens to mount in piggyback, or buy a maksutov to deep space photography, thanks for the answer.

An 105mm filter of decent quality is more expensive than this lens. Otherwise a very cheap 105mm filter will seriously deteriorate further the not so great optical quality of this lens. At 3200 mm with teleconverters and little digital zoom, you can certainly shoot Saturn or Jupiter planet. Of course long shutter speed is needed, the quality will be poor but it is interesting.
@migueldesa00314 жыл бұрын
Yeah and 105mm filter is very rare! The main problem to photograph the dark sky is the aperture of f8... It's not the ideal...
@AgnostosGnostos4 жыл бұрын
Miguel de Sá Thank you for the reply. The f/8 is indeed an issue. I have the autofocus Sony 500mm f/8 reflex mirror lens and the pellicle mirror of the LA-EA4 adapter for my Sony a7 III reduces half a stop the light. Only with bright daylight during noon I can shoot easily handheld with fast autofocus. When I use a polarizing filter the f/8 becomes f/16 and then I need a tripod and manual focus.

Hi 13! So, although it's a close technology of a telescope (filters on the back) in lenses any minimal difference between the lens and sensor cut the capability of focusing on the infinity, as macro tubes. But I guess it has space for a DIY solution between the lens and EF lens mount 😉
@thorbjrnhellehaven57662 жыл бұрын
@@patricklukcy13 yes, some brands of mirror lens include ND-filters for the rear in the box. I think I got ND2 and ND4 with mine, just to allow stepping down, for longer exposure time. Because the mirror lens is fixed f-stop, you might want another way to extend exposure time.
