It‘s not just some generic shooter, it‘s something different and I really appreciate EAs courage to release a sequel to a game that didn‘t sell that well years ago.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst was just a way for me to have fun. Sometimes I get a little annoyed when people get mad because the game isn't entirely perfect and the story isn't to their liking. Who cares? I like to play games to have child-like fun. I like to run around and kick people in the face and use grappling hooks. And I like to get invested in the story even if it's sub-par.

I love it's mystery too, this and the original game are just amazing. The soundtrack dives you into the mysterious city full of tall buildings + amazing graphics. And the story is even better than in first game.

I have a question. Why in all of the reviews of the game on one mentions the soundtrack of the game. I have not played the game yet, but I have the soundtrack with all 32 tracks. Mirror's Edge Catalyst has an amazing soundtrack, maybe the best of 2016. I'm in shock that one one says nothing about it. If no one believes me, please, download the soundtrack and listen to It. It's very long (it's 5 hours long), but it's amazing. Solar Fields has made another great soundtrack and he didn't disappoint. :-)

In the original the city was a lot grittier in spite of being so sterile. Here even though it's earlier in the timeline and should therefore be closer to reality everything is actually shinier and more hi-tech. It kind of hurts my eyes.

The timeline is ME:C -> ME. In ME the corporation PK was a result of a merger of 2 corporation, Pirandello and Kruger. It doesn't really say what their business is, aside from controlling the city and putting down any opposition to corporate control, and having private security that acts in place of the police. In ME:C it's pre-merger. Other than that I can't say anything either way because I haven't played the game or watched a real playthrough, but in ME they make it clear that the corporations took over the government when Faith and Kat were children. Both games take place after that. The mayor stands at the top, but his corporation controls the city in collaboration with the other corporations.

On PC* Bought this on Ps4 and holy cow this looks like hammered shit. I'm a rabid Mirror's Edge fan but wow the console version looks pretty horrendous. If you can get it on PC, do it. And it is a lot of fun. Actually this guy was 150% spot on. The game is really polarizing: When it's in it's good areas it's phenominal, when it's in it's not-so-good areas it's a complete disaster. When you're running and constantly under fire and doing quick 1-hit attacks and moving on, it's fucking incredible! But they have a number of DOOM style "locked door arenas" and the combat looks and plays so bad it's fuckin HILARIOUS. As in, it's so bad it's good. Combat in ME1 was 10000x better up close(and the original's wasn't very good), but this game beats the shit out of it in high speed. Maybe I'm missing something, like how to counter or something along those lines, but the multi-CQB needed loads of work. Quite enjoying myself right now. Lots of glaring issues, just like the first, but once again the art, music, and gameplay (cept CQB) absolutely steal the show. If you're anxious to get it, go for it. If you're not that anxious like the rest of us were/are, best wait for the sale because it's far from perfect (a shared quality of the original).

i sort of agree, but im not invested in the characters that much, theres a certain event that happened where your meant to feel emotion, but i was like "meh, whatever. just finish the cutscene so i can get back to playing" and it was mostley to do with the fact that the character involved had no real development and i didnt care about them because of that.

I feel the open world really helps with the Mirrors edge feel. The first mirrors edge was too linear for me and once you get into running the user-generated challenges you get to know the layout so well that you can improvise your way anywhere without runners vision at all.

I do agree this game is missing things For example, I noticed they skipped over the opening scene with the theme music playing that ME1 had... this game didn't have a Opening Cinematic like that and personally the Opening for ME1 hyped me up before getting into it. The second thing is lack of Theme Song, While i haven't beaten the game yet i have yet to hear a theme for the game. Unless this is in the end of the game like ME1 had i will be a little disappointed, Personally the ME1 Theme gave the game some Character that was not in it before... the lyrics were great and it fit the atmosphere of the game and story itself. When it comes to Upgrades i honestly think it was a bit rushed for abilities. They could of added much more stuff such as, being able to *Survive Longer Drops*, *Increased Speed*, *Faster attack Speed*, Chance of triggering some cool scenes that would play out after killing enemy's... and i don't mean the current ones. I mean something more like a panoramic view of Faith wall running around and kicking the persons ass. Now when it comes to a possible 2nd game i would really enjoy seeing the game through another time period/era. While i like the look and style of ME1 and ME2 even more so i would love to see a *Neo Futuristic Cyber Era* of a place like Tokyo... but maybe more of a advanced much bigger version. Mirrors Edge is perfect for the style of game that is Eye Candy... doing this style/era would be amazing. If they make it more of a darker ton with a ton of neon style to it i can easily see it being amazing.

The idea of a darker game with neon aesthetics is fantastic! I love that kind of Cyberpunk Neo-Tokyo atmosphere in fiction (part of the reason why I liked Hard Reset and Deus Ex: Human Revolution so much). With Mirror's Edge it should be an interesting combination, since the original game and Catalyst are technically /post-/cyberpunk. I'd also like to see a comeback of the excellent music and theme song from the original. The OST was so good for that game!

Simon Peggle When playing i found there is a jukebox in the game at the original lair. It plays music and one song in it [which is assume is the theme] is Warning Call by CHVRCHES... I like it but it for some reason didn't have the touch that ME1 did.

***** while you are entitled to your own opinion i would like to say this. Saying the theme is not something to care about or it is not needed is highly in-accurate, Most games and movies have themes for a reason. It is because Songs made for those things often times have vocals or rhythm that bring out the true nature/style of said Game and or Movie. MEC did not have any moment where you could tell the true nature of the game was brought to life via Visuals and Music, However i will agree the game is fucking amazing. The combat is smooth like you said but later on in the game i felt it get a little more sluggish, Which is why i suggested a upgrade for faster attack speed would of been helpful. There are times where i kick and attempt to follow up with another kick to finish them off but i can't because the attacking is so slow and by the time my foot is about to hit i get shot and staggered. In short they added this system of only being able to attack like 1-3 times before you are forced to run away otherwise you will be staggered.

Firstly, the opening cinematic after Faith gets out is strong and beautiful because it has the wall of text like the original and Solar Fields' great soundtrack. Secondly, Catalyst does have a theme song. In a way it was supposed to replace still alive. It's by Chvrches.

I am loving the game. It's the only game that has stuck with me for so long. I keep coming back and replaying it just for fun or for the nostalgia it gives. It is like a second world to live in. And not to mention the comicses and everything else. They really explain what happened before Catalyst.

There's a lot of stuff to do in the game even after completing the storyline, but that was not the main thing keeping me in it after the story. Replaying missions you'll always want to after the main game and it's easy to do because you can replay anything from the menu, and also the locations will keep you hooked to explore every single corner. After exploring everything you'll keep returning back just for the nostalgia and the city.

Some of my favorite parts are all the conversations Faith has with Dogen, and if you've read Mirror's Edge Exordium, this amazing comics, I recommend you read it after completing the game, to see the contract between Faith before and after the release...so if you've read it you'll fall in love more to the game and the story.

This has to be my favourite game of 2016. Yet i have played it with runner's vision off, and the extra sense of exploration, planning and finding your own routes while exploring the rooftops makes this so much better than the original for me. The city looks fantastic and if i dont find my route right away, standing still and having a look around amazes me every time.

To me this is one of those more chill and laid back games. There are so many game genres alone, then you add in approaches and executions. This game is just meant to be sort of simplistic, aesthetic, fun in a semi tricky/flashy way...nothing majorly deep or with massive skill curves as a focus. So to me it just comes across as a well made chill game. Definitely looks good. And it's fun if you want to relax, and just run around going parkour on buildings.

Thanks a lot for the video! After watching it I felt more so discouraged to buy it even though I was such a fan of the first that really put a revolutionary style to first person view games. I have broke down and ended up buying it. I tried it a bit before work and felt a little down about it but after getting home and really picking it up, I feel good. It is very fun and has its downs but ultimately, if you dig the running parkour more than anything, it is great! If this is your first experience with the series in general, it actually it a pretty great game. It was meant to be sequel/reboot of the series, and I can't wait to see where they go next. I'd personally like a spin-off game about Icarus or someone else(I'm actually writing a third game "book" of sorts, and it centers on a completely different character. Still a good game overall.

For now, know that it's between the first and second games(this was before I read the ME: Exordium comic), that it's got a protagonist that's not in either game, but is related to a character in the games, and that it's working title is Mirror's Edge: Ghost. okay so guess what it's 2020 and i'm watching this video and writing this comment as i just finished the first game from 2008. yes i know it's a very long time but i'm young and only in 2019 did i get my first ever gaming laptop that i could decently play games on and started investing in steam. i already knew of mirror's edge but forgot about it until i happened to see it in the steam store on sale. long story short: bought it, tried it, loved it! and i wanted more so i looked up this one because i'm guessing that it will be the sequel to the events of the last game. and it's cool that it's open world as well which makes for even more realistic parkour than having a single linear path. may not have the best story or voice acting, but i definitely want to give it a try. and in 2020 it should be really cheap.

Its 2022 now. Theres so many incredible games out now.... and im still playing this game daily! I know about the flaws but i always have fun in some way. Running or even doing Story missions! Its not perfect but its still one of the best gaming experiences in my life

There are no parkour games, that's why ME wil always be something special and fun. Dying Light is probably closest to it, but aesthetics are completely different.

I would buy it when it goes on sale. I really enjoyed the first game. The subtle, yet bright runners vision was original and useful. In Catalyst can you also jump on buildings closer to the ground or step foot on the ground or is it all completely locked to the building roof?

Just beat the game, I hyped this game up for a long time and finally got it because now I have an Xbox One (not for christmas, got it like a month ago.) I can confidently say I loved this game and MOST things about it. A couple things I don't like about it are when you are faced with a jump or something in tight quarters it can be really difficult. The shift mechanic definitely helps, but it's still annoying. Another thing was the ending... although I am happy that it seems to be setting up for a third game :). All the other complaints with story and upgrading didn't phase me, and that's probably because I don't play many modern games or watch very many movies, though the story can be very confusing at times. Overall a game worth checking out.

Dying Light is great, but that's a game about killing zombies at the end of the day. The parkour is a nice little twist, but that isn't the main point of the game. Mirror's Edge is centered around Parkour.

Idk, I couldn't enjoy Dying Light... The color palette was bland, the city was really boring to me, and overall I just didn't have fun. I played it for about 4 hours and I was done with it, sadly.

let me explain some stuff about the game, I already completed it, so I have the right, the combat system is great, because you even in a locked room can get some pretty nice combos, because...WALLS. wallrunning is the shit to kick a guy on the face, also springboards are pretty easy to find in the environment. some people might ask: why can't faith just grab a gun and shoot the shit out of the people? well. if you pay attention to the loading screens you can see that the game says that all guns are biometrically linked to their owners, Faith couldn't use them even if she wanted to. the ability to choose where you can kick your opponent is awesome because it gives you the option to stumble enemies on each other and even throw them if railings and rooftops :D which is pretty fun. also you may think that the AI are pretty dumb but in the beginning of the game, when. icarus gives you the beat link, the grid link causes interference showing what the employees see all the time. tons of information and audio. imagine yourself fighting with those on your face. I think it could be pretty hard to pay attention with it.

It's true you cannot use guns. EA explains in a message during the loading screen that each Krueger Sec member has their firearm specifically made/modified for them as an individual so if Faith were to grab it things would just get complicated. I don't really understand it that much but it just seems like a cheap cover up on the developers end.

Just picked up this game earlier today its been fun so far im really enjoying the parkour gameplay and trying to figure out different quicker paths to get to my destination... The best way to play this game is to turn off runners vision and figure out the paths on ur own UNLESS ur really really lost and need help figuring out another option to ur path

I clicked on this video just to leave a comment about how awesome it is. If you loved the first one and you are able to accept any changes to gameplay then you are going to love this game like me. I couldn't ask for more. The open world is awesome, feels awesome, soundtrack is awesome just like in the first game, there are bunch of secret places in different areas. I don't remember how side quests were in the game but I guess they were alright, you were definitely looking for rewards when you were doing them like in every game, not because you want to have fun with them. There was much hate when the game was released about not being able to make some moves from the beginning but I had all skills maxed early in the game and again if you are able to take some new additions and changes to the game then you're gonna love this game like me. Everything in the game was better than first one except the time trials which I enjoyed less. They were somehow way more fun in first game. Maybe because they were harder, I don't know. I just like the routes of trials more in first game.

It's basically an aesthetic experience with a bare-bones story thrown in as make-weight, and some interesting mechanics for moving through a beautifully rendered world. which is OK by me. Soundtrack and matching cool visuals are pretty stunning which is something that matters to me in games. Of course if people like the grittier stuff with BFGs, monsters, blood sprays and boss fights (and the latter I can't be fucked with, personally), they won't like this, which is fine: horse for courses. I'm a little bit puzzled as to why people think Catalyst isn't as good as the first ME though; I wanted to run around all over the first one and couldn't (though there is a camera cheat). IMHO Catalyst is better for a whole bunch of reasons. And Faith does have a nicer ass in Catalyst..

I think this is a great idea, it fits pretty good with the whole action-adventure theme to the Mirror's Edge games. I agree that combat against a group can be hard and annoying, but the overall gameplay is pretty good. The combat works perfectly and smoothly if you isolating targets, and the parkour/freerunning is excellent. The vast city of glass is great to explore, and looks gorgeous at night. The character are pretty predictable, is a sense, where you can guess what will happen before it does, and some of the characters don't make very much sense. Overall, I would give this game a 8.5/10, Thank you for your time reading this.

depends on what area you unlocked... if you start the game and do nothing else but free run you will get bored

There are some times where you'll stop guards from harassing guys, but in the late game and post-story you run a solid chance of stumbling into a group of enemies and fighting them off or running.

since i finished a major story mission that increase's krugersecs presence in the city i encounter 2-3 groups of guards on the way to missions, so yes, you will met groups (especially in the downtown area)

Just really got into mirrors edge, totally love it. But im a little sceptical about the technical side of the game. Things like abzu, Riff racer, clustertruck, And CSGO run absolutely fine on my PC, but Mirror's edge (2009) for some reason lags or delays the refresh rate on my monitor. Im not a huge know it all about PCs and I should be asking this on reddit or something, but what could cause this? Could it be the engine or graphics settings? I have no idea why Im asking here but im just a bit curious.

I bought this game like year ago but get to play it just now. In my opinion, the story line is a lot better than the original. I never understood what the first story was all about (lol). But once you have played the story line in ME:C it's pretty boring. U get to move freely but there isn't much to do when you have done all the missions and side quests. I didn't really enjoy the dashes and deliverys much. But the combat is something so cool and ridiculous at the same time, it's better than it was in the first game that's a fact but while you are running in the Glass you don't really want to fight K-SEC every other minute, i know you can just run but it's annoying. And i didn't understand the end, in the end of the sotry Faith says; "I want to say that a lot changed, but that would be a lie", her sister got the lead of K-SEC stuff ect, but all the things is same. Idk, 3/5 game, could've been better.

One of my favorite parts of the first one was how you could have a gun if you wanted to but often had to ditch it. Kinda felt like indiana jones, use a gun when you need to but you only have the ammo left in it and it'll slow you down.

I have been parkour training for many years and the parkour in this game is fantastic. my only problem was the map was very difficult to memorize. every time you started to get the hang of a new area it would throw you into another huge area of the map. it got confusing.

Question can you stay disarm guards with guns and dismembered gun right in front of them because in the first mirrors edge while I never played around with the gun game play mechanism I personally really like the different animation which Faith takedown each guard with a different weapon.
