Well, my opinion of Ten Count? ... I LOVE IT! I FREAKIN' LOVE IT!! It is so awesome. The best BL manga I know. It's so full of emotions. I totally fell in love with the characters and the story. I love it. I guess it depends on your preference if you like that manga or not. I LOVE that weird psychologic stuff going on in Ten Count. These two characters are both fucked up, but to see how they fit together so cute just... it really catches my heart. Ten Count is for all boys love fans who enjoy these fucked up, masochistic and sadistic, weird, perverted and suuuuper hot characters. And cute romance. Ten Count just has it all together. Everything a weirdo would love. And I really, REALLYREALLYREALLYREALLYREALLREALLY love that manga.

I guess whether someone likes Ten Count or not is based on preference. If you aren't into sex scenes and more errotic stuff of course it won't be that enjoyable. Of course it's a Yaoi so if you've been into manga and anime long enough one should expect some sex scene(s) at some point unless it's the lighter Yaoi or Shonen ai, plus even if one looks at the cover it can be implied that eventually there will be some erotic stuff. The dark pasts of both Kurose and Shirotani, especially Shirotani was expected. The author hints at it int he beginning, but doesn't explicitly say anything until later. I've read enough Yaoi to know a lot of Yaoi manga have characters with some dark past. With how Kurose changed, well it's doesn't quite outright say it in the manga, but Kurose says a few times how at first he only wanted to help Shirotani because he had a germ phobia for I guess you could say closure from his past. However, it isn't until later on does he actually fall in love with Shirotani and then becomes a little more forceful when he shows his true self. I guess it's part of that "We're both fucked up" idea and to probably move along the sex scenes. So Kurose in the beginning didn't show his entire personality, he still loves Shirotani, just not like how people initially expected. Some people like these kind of stories some people don't, just depends. This is probably one of my favorite mangas because of the art and original/unique story, the sex is an added bonus I guess too. If you go in knowing it's just a manga and some stuff won't be realistic or very comprehendible then you'll enjoy the story/stories more.

I still enjoy the series and I am still following all the updates, it's just not my favourite series out there. And don't misunderstand lol, I love the smutty scenes. I specifically love the scenes from Nekota Yonezou's work. If you haven't read her yet, you should, she is so good! And I think it's just the dad thing that makes me slightly uncomfortable, and I didn't like the execution of the way the characters progressed, I guess. It didn't feel natural to me. I'm sure it doesn't bug most people, and I have reread the series a second time to see if it was just me. The story doesn't bother me as much now, but the transition still seemed a little awkward from a story telling standpoint. But that's just my opinion. Her art is really nice! I always love that aspect of the manga. Now in the most recent updates Kurose is starting to open up a little more and he is starting to act like his sweet self again, like he did in the beginning, which I am enjoying. It's not major, he's still himself but he does seem to be reverting to the start of the series in the way he is treating Shirotani. Just wish the updates were a little more frequent. And when I originally read the series I don't think I understood that the author was actually going for a sub/dom vibe, and now I understand that a little more, it helped with understanding the way certain scenes went.

OMG, yes I know, at the begging all starts really cute and innocent and then the part where Shirotani had this sad past about his dad and other things and so Kurose. But Takarai Rihito really takes the story well so I really love it.

I really liked this series because it was so so different from the typical yaoi manga, but then to me it just became really typical again the moment the story took that turn. I am too invested in it at this point so I won't stop reading it anytime soon haha. I am just really hoping the updates will be a little quicker.

as a newbie fujoshi Ten count was my first. My thoughts and opinions on ten count is that the art style is amazing, plot is better then most BL manga that i know of. And also i got the 3 vols from the library, in which they don't allow lewd books. XD

I liked ten count wierd, but it was very good! I felt it was more messed up than wierd with the father deal, but it could happen! kurose did change, but it was more he held himself back until he couldn't do it anymore, not that he "changed". He was more forceful because Shiritani finally realized it's not germs, it's his past that messed him up (leading to misophobia). So, Kurose (by the way, pronounce kurr- oh- s, kuro meaning black, but i dont know about the end part) almost "helped" him realize just how sick they are. It was nice, and it did get a little wierd, but wasn't it wierd from the start?l lol plus im not HUGE into yaoi, so I cant really say anything since I dont follow yaoi mangas/animes.

In Japanese the letter e is pronounced as ae. So I believe his name is supposed to sound like "Kurosae". So that's how I have been pronouncing it haha. In the video I just couldn't actually remember his name XD And I can see what you mean with Kurose just holding himself back. I was just a little shocked and at the sudden personality change. It was just a little too sudden. But if he was just acting different before because he was holding himself back then I can see that.

The Kurose nendoroid was around 65 and the Shirorani nendoroid was around 75. The art book was 25. And I love the art book it’s just what I wanted!

Here are some of my favs: Don't be Cruel (Hidoku Shinai de) ] Electric Delusion (Mousou Elektel) } These three are by the same author NEKOTA Yonezou Inside God's Arms (Michiru Heya) ] Samejima-kun and Sasahara-kun Mother's Spirit and Calling (Ootsuki Miu) This one isn't my favourite but it's really cute and I would say worth the read.

Great artbook and review!! :D And I totally agree--loved the first part of Ten Count, but then it got weird. I didn't think the dad thing was super out of place, since it was a fitting explanation for the misophonia, but I agree, the whole story and the characters got messed up after!! ;-; I feel like the author tried too hard to make it an edgy and messed up psychological sex thing when there was a fantastic hurt/comfort love story in there already. It's sad, since it was such a refreshing story at first...and I'm also too invested to stop, just like you...! ;u; But it's so nice to finally hear someone else say it!! Wow, I'll have to check out Don't Be Cruel--I've been looking for more good BL manga, and I'd also be interested in knowing what your other two favorites are!! Personally my favorites are Crimson Spell and Tyrant Falls In Love, but they both have huge issues (the former got really awful after a while, and you have to totally turn off your morals to enjoy the latter!) YEAH

Yea it was a good explanation for the misophobia, and I am glad they had an explanation for it, but it was still quite uncomfortable and I felt so bad for the main character, because he was just a kid going through puberty, and I feel like he was just so confused and scared. It feels like he confused the feelings he had for his dad, like his emotions and love were muddled. Does that make sense? Just as a kid, I don't think he fully understood what he was feeling and they ended up being muddled into love of multiple types. I hope that makes sense. And then having that girl there to just make him feel like trash was the final bit to traumatize him. Ten Count is getting an official English translation as well. Just so you know. Oh yes I feel it, for a lot of BL I feel like my morals need to be stored away until I'm finished reading. And there are actually quite a few BL manga I really really love! So Don't Be Cruel is one, I think another name is Treat me Gently or something, but Don't be Cruel is the official translated name, and the Japanese name is Hidoku Shinai de. The beginning is a little strange but as the story continues they become the cutest couple so just keep reading! So the other two are by the same author NEKOTA Yonezou. And they are Mousou Elektel which is the first one I read by her. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Like one of my top favs because its my favourite troupe CHILDHOOD FRIENDS XD It also goes by the name Electric Delusion. And then the most recent I read by her is Michiru Heya. I really enjoyed this one as well. Less sex, but good character and relationship development, plus it's completed. And it's really really cute and just UGH. The author's art style is gorgeous and she draws men soooo nice. And her sex scenes for the most par are A+. If you read any of these let me know, I want to hear what you think. No one I know has read them so I haven't been able to talk about them.

I'm really late but I've been considering getting this so thank you for the flip through. I just wanna explain one thing that might clear it up and make you like the story more. regarding shirotanis past with his dad (you know what happened so I won't go into detail) it's very accurate and relevant to Shirotani in his adult life. what he did made him feel extreme gilt, shame, disgust with himself and an overall sense that his being was disgustingly dirty and contaminated, which is what his ocd germaphobia stems from. this is also why he makes a good pet masochist because though mixed with shame and guilt from the past, the same situation also stirred up a complex where he wants to be praised, validated, etc. the desire once targeted at his dad due to the trauma and warped situation is now targeted at kurose, which is much more appropriate. Kurose understands whats going on and is able to read shirotani better this way. his past trauma and germophobia has caused tons of pent up sexual desire and lots of isolation/loneliness, which is why Kurose says when they get sexual "deep down you want me to do this." This also combines with Kurose's abandonment issues. Shirotani is reliant and dependant on him which would help him be a little more secure and feel he won't leave. Not the most healthy relationship, but trauma bonding as well as genuine love. I hope you can appreciate the story more now, or at the least understand a bit better c:

TheSasukefang hello! I’m super glad you enjoyed my flip though! This art book is absolutely gorgeous! In response to what you were saying: This flip through was done three years ago, so I have reread the story since then and the manga has completed now as well. While this manga still isn’t my favourite, I did enjoy it. And don’t worry I totally get what the author was going for, I think I was just expecting the story to be a bit more of a slow burn because of the first volume and how the manga portrayed itself. I was super used to really fast and pretty forced romances and sexual situations in yaoi that when I started this manga it was a breath of fresh air. But then it quickly turned into something similar to other yaoi. While the story was a bit deeper and rooted in their trauma, which made it more interesting, I found that some things the author did bothered me a little. And this is 100% just opinion, and everyone is free to think whatever they want. Like I said before I did enjoy the manga, but I think when I started it I was looking for something else and when, in my opinion, when Kurose started getting rough with Shirotani too early and being extra forceful it put me off a bit and turned into more of you’re regular yaoi, where force is very prominent. And while I have read many different yaoi and experienced all kinds of stories, I was getting kind of tired of that same troupe. When the entire first volume of this manga seemed to be something more slow and sweet, my expectations also went in a different direction. So mostly I was disappointed in the end because my own expectations were a little too high and hoping for something else. The manga isn’t bad, just not what I wanted it to be and that’s totally on me.

geedoo459 agreed. while ten count is one of my favorite BL manga, it sucks that they still used the "assault is love" trope. it's reasonable that you'd dislike/lose interest. it's even worse here than usual because of all the trauma and the patient-therapist relationship. in spite of that I still love the rest and just like to think that shirotani did enjoy it mostly since this is just fiction. if you need a break from the assault things that go on in a ton of yaoi, try reading Hide & Seek (Himegoto Asobi) by Yaya Sakuragi if you haven't already. also one of my top faves (maybe more than 10 count), everything is consensual and even a bit more realistic than usual. the characters are also nice and one of the men of the relationship has a kid as well from a previous relationship. it's only 3 volumes so if you haven't yet, check it out when you've got some time :)

Which makes me really sad. But I do that with a lot of manga where I really like the other aspects of it haha, I’ll just pretend certain things were consensual or I’ll come up with my own variation of the scene haha. Or you can find cute BL but then they generally aren’t explicit... and... I like the sexy times lol. So it definitely takes some searching to find series that has both lol. If you don’t mind, I highly recommend Mother’s Spirit! It’s super cute and consensual. I’m going to check out Hide & Seek for sure! Thank you for that!

Ten Count started well but I agree in that I lost my interest in it a little bit when Kurose changes and starts being more forceful instead of his initial gentle self. The plot isn't very developed. However it's good if you feel like something sexy. I've read up to the current update only because I love Takarai Rihito's art. My favorite story of hers was Seven Days. I think the English manga went out of print or something because by the time I came around to ordering it I could only find the second volume for realllyy expensive. T_T I ordered the Japanese version instead even though I can't read it because I love it so much. The movie was good too. Btw thank you for posting!! I want this artbook sooo bad. ;w;

Honestly I genuinely enjoyed ten count, I’m totally okay about your opinion. Although in the beginning itself was a bit slow for things to go in the sexual direction lots of fujoshies and fundashies hoped for right at the start. But I do really savor the deep dark parts in stories like these because it’s showing how Shirotani’s phobia came to be. You might not understand but that’s completely fine, but for personal preference I do love reading about the treacherous things that has happened to these characters. On some level it might be relatable but I just think it’s wonderful because it’s something different coming from yaoi. And it’s just not about the sex and having more sex on top of that, it turns the shift into a different direction.

At the start of the manga, the storyline was interesting, it was different in a way. But I halfway through the actual manga, it became less and less interesting, and it became weird like you said. I think the author should've just kept the story line all throughout the book. But the dad thing was necessary when you think about it, because that's how the main character developed his condition in the first place.

And I can fully agree with the 'sex' scenes. It was a bit much, and I think he was being a bit forceful towards the main character during the 'sex' scenes. I think he should of waited into the relationship grew more, and actually waited for the main character to develop and understand his feelings for the other black headed character (forgotten his name). Over all, at the start the manga was one of my favourites, but towards the ending the plot became a bit dull & the main character became extremely annoying. The manga I would still recommend over all, just wished the author made a bit more effort towards the middle parts of the story..

Christina Procopio I do enjoy the story, and I loved the Germaphobia thing! It's so different from anything else I've seen in a BL! And I got it from CD Japan :) And I would lol. I've never been really into Masochistic focused stories, not that they bother me, just it isn't what I find myself reading often. If I find any good ones though I will be reading them haha

I haven't read anything else done by her but I do plan to look into them because I really like her art style haha. If you're saying you want to hear my favourite BL manga series then here we go: Don't be Cruel (Hidoku Shinai de) ] Electric Delusion (Mousou Elektel) ] These three are by the same author NEKOTA Yonezou Inside God's Arms (Michiru Heya) ] Samejima-kun and Sasahara-kun There are probably more but I can't think of anymore at the moment haha.
