Hey mister! You have a girlfriend! Actually now she’s you’re fiance. How dare you let that mirror in between your legs! That space is reserved now. Tsk tsk lol Also it sounds so badass to say you’re a Salvage lol. That’d make a great shirt.

Wow this is cool. As a former nurse on pause I only knew this technique in relation to the treatments of stroke patients with hemiplegia. But i have to watch tomorrow when I'm not tired, to be sure to remember it completely and - what's most important: from a clients view ( that we often can't imagine at all.) Thanks for the "extra refreshing course" I guess ! So.....Thanks from former patients if I'm able to go back into my profession in advance anyways.

I had a similar sensation back when I had my hammer toes broken, I remember laying there always feeling this intense urge to curl them but they were stuck straight by 3 inch surgical pins and a huge splint on my leg - I had screws in the side of my foot as well. Having the urge to move but not being able to whether it be surgical restrictions or phantom limb pain is just mental hell so I can't imagine how you felt without your foot until you got used to it. I cant complain because I got my toes back after a few months, you didnt! Godspeed to you, bro.

This really proves the pain exists only in the brain, it is amazing how something you don't have still hurts or itch. I wonder if we can shut down the pain receptors to not feel anymore.

This is so interesting. I was in a psychological study a few years ago that was basically the opposite . What they did is have me put my real hand on 1 side of a piece of cardboard and made it look like a fake hand was my own. At first they tapped my real hand while tapping the fake one a few times, then they put stuff like water and other textures on both. Eventually they stopped applying it to my real hand and did it only to the fake hand, I didn’t even know as I 100% felt it on my real hand. The last part they actually slathered mud on the fake hand and they said we’ll get you something to wash your hand. I said ok and pulled out my hand out to see my hand was totally clean. 😂

- *Long comment asking for advice* - After your traumatic experience how did you find the courage to get out and do things again? I don’t think I’ve actually ever even spoke on this but since my traumatic experience (bad car accident) I’ve kinda settled for much less in life in regards to getting out and doing things. Not sure why my mind is wired the way it is now but I stay home a lot and I’m okay with it but at the same time I feel like I’m missing out. I guess I’m just scared to relive the experience or something similar. Almost dying is fucking terrifying and that’s why I ask you since you can relate with that. Originally found you from the 911 call and binge watched a ton of your recovery videos. You’re an inspiration to many, I’m happy to see you go so far in the past 10 years

@Crew9t
@Crew9t 3 жыл бұрын
Well, I have four cats so don’t take this the wrong way, because I’m definitely a cat lover, but I don’t know if cats are quite intelligent enough to maintain that level of memory recall. I mean I’m honestly not sure. But yeah maybe don’t feel too bad, because your cat probably doesn’t experience phantom pain.
@CynicalActress

@@Crew9t Phantom pains have nothing to do with intelligence and cats definitely can feel them. Pretty ancient part of brain is responsible.
@CynicalActress
@CynicalActress 3 жыл бұрын
@@Crew9t You don't have to remember you had a limb to have PP. Cats and dogs experienced multiple signs, however they react to pain therapy way better than humans, so psychological memory may contribute to the pains and make healing harder. But the initial cause is the same in humans and animals - wrong wiring in the cortex responsible for signaling of the movements. If you'd had a leg but never moved it even though your nerves worked this part of brain would essentially make you move it. It's responsible also for involuntary movements. So it tries to signal those involuntary movements but nothing happens and kaboom. Phantom pains. You have a cool channel and you were very brave 20year old. ;) Thank you so much for your work. :)

I wonder if I can try this out without being an amputee to understand the extent of our brains trickery. If I tickle one leg to create an itchy sensation and then scratch my other leg while looking in the mirror would that make it go away
@Crew9t
@Crew9t 3 жыл бұрын
We did something like that in my psychology class in high school. One of the kids volunteered, and he put both hands flat on the table in front of him. Then the teacher put a mirror in between them and pushed it flush against his chest. And the kid was instructed to look at the reflection in the mirror so that he would see both hands and would not actually see his right hand, just a reflection of his left hand which looked like his right hand in the mirror. They then tickled his left hand with a feather, he of course felt the sensation in his left hand because that’s where he was being tickled, but because he was watching it in the mirror it looked like his right hand was also being tickled as well, and he said that he could very clearly feel his right hand being tickled too.
