He has a very low EQ. His way of handling jealousy is to lash out at Kotoko. He's really bothered by her attention to KinChan at the party, and especially bothered by what KinChan said to him in the hallway about kissing Kotoko. Naoki wanted to be the one to kiss her.

This episode is one of my favorite because there are some scene where are Naoki being jealous. The first one is when he saw Kinnosuke put his arm around her shoulder at 14:01. He did the same thing to her when they took a picture together on the day after he saw them. You can see it at 17:38. The second one is when he saw Kinnosuke wiped her mouth at 32:30. He ended up saying the harsh thing, not only to her nor Kinnosuke, but to all of class F students (at 38:15). He also followed her when she decided to follow Kinnosuke. He even let people noticed him when he saw they're seemed like going to kiss (at 40:54). It's obvious that he's already in love with her, but he's just keep being denial.

He was jealous so he said harsh words to Kotoko. He would also make a move so that Kotoko will not forget him or unlove him.

I want everyone to remember that this is a work of fiction and we can perceive bits of Naoki's POV so we can romantizise him as the main male lead with a tsundere trope. But in real life, when someone tries to manipulate your feelings and gaslight you, just let go. Life isn't a work of fiction and you deserve better. Naoki may have a boring upbringing but that is not an excuse to give gatepass to mistreatment and unappreciative attitude. One important thing in entering a healthy relationship is that it involves two parties and requires two-way communication. Him being the smart person, he should know that, and treating Kotoko harshly won't fix his confusion with his feelings everytime he is annoyed or jealous. In real life, you can never be so sure of someone's background unless you know them for a long time already. Red flags are actual red flags in real life. We don't need to look for a perfect partner, but we want at least someone who participates, good-natured, and sentient. I'm also saying this because it is prevalent nowadays to judge someone by their status or the amount of money they have, and many like Kin-chan is worthy of love but just doesn't have the opportunity.

In watching this episode again, I noticed how Naoki was standing nearest the opening between where the two classes were celebrating when the teachers were giving their speeches to the classes. If you look closely at his eyes, they are not on his teacher, but are carefully looking at what's going on with the other class, especially what is going on with Kotoko. He's definitely keeping an eye on her. Poor boy is already in love and thinks of her as his girl. He's just having trouble admitting it to her and mostly to himself.

You sure do sound like you've had a very fun high school life ☺️💕... Watching Mischievous kiss reminds me of my high school life. I lived a life like Irie Naoki, but yo, I am a girl 😂. I was very uptight and wasn't really popular in school, I wasn't the smartest nor was I exactly good looking. But I can relate to Irie Naoki. I only focused on school and had consistently been in the Star section or special section till I graduated high school, I didn't hang around much with friends, I was sort of numb to romantic feelings and bluntly turned down confessions, I was an introvert but very savage just like Irie-kun. When somebody tries to cross me I am very silent but when my patience runs thin and I have the chance, you could say that I kinda have a way with words like Naoki. I deliver short sentences but I always make sure that I get the last say. It sure was good to be on the top of your game but it was lonely. People like you for what you can do and not for who you are, true friends are scarce too either their too afraid to approach you or they just hate your guts. When I watch the different remakes of Itazura na Kiss, I like the Japanese version the most coz I think it's closest to the anime. But the Chinese version entitled A Love so Beautiful, kind of made me miss my high school life. Compared to the friendship, adventure and fun that they've all shared mine was very mundane and controlled like Naoki. But I don't really feel to sorry about that, I just really appreciate Kotoko's presence in his life and I kind of understand when he says that his life was more exciting with her around.

I think that Kotoko didn't imagine the possibility of Naoki fall in love in her. She only obssessed with him. Naoki was a red flag in several moments, though. But in 48:59 I saw a curious thing: anger. The only feeling that he can't hide, no matter how much he tried to, specially when she say that she would give up on him. After that, jealous, sadness... Anyway, Naoki never tasted "embaresing feelings" before Kotoko, so he didn't know how to react. After he kissed her, little by little, he were changed. He was a cold man? yep. However, he changed. Actually I wanna know POV from Watanabe. Why he so confidence talked about Naoki and Kotoko. Even he strongly supported them. Naoki can't predictable if Kotoko still has another his picture with gown, when he was young. So his pride is wrecked. After Kinnosuke scold him, now Kotoko. 😂😂 Kinnosuke sing a song about Kotoko. But how poor are you Kinchan. Kotoko just kissed by Naoki 😂😂😂 Naoki never let Kotoko go to anywhere. He gave up from tokyo university threw away his parents dream for sake Kotoko. He mad because kotoko want quit chase and pursuit him. he wouldn't have idea to kissing Kotoko, but he won't let Kinnosuke to kiss Kotoko. and his urge let him to kiss Kotoko as his teritory. because kotoko's lips has touched by kinnosuke hands. If you realize something, Naoki couldn't hide the emotional feeling about jealous and anger. People was easy to know that he was jealous or anger. That why Kinnosuke was easy to read the aim he following Kotoko.
