1. A mustang isn't a very good vehicle to drive in the snow. 2. Red flag #1: Anyone that says "Oogie" 3. The way she responded to the fire in the BBQ pit when he threw a match on the book: What do you expect? 4. In the book Annie chops his feet off (not just hobbling him). It IS Stephen King after all. 5. Kathy Bates won Best Actress Oscar. 6. Rob Reiner is a great director but, it's too bad he's a CPF.😭🤬 7. King wrote this because of a deep-seated fear of what overzealous fans might do. 8. RIP James Caan 😇 9. FWIW Kathy Bates recently announced her retirement.

@@jessebatres6895 Fun Fact: I was watching an interview with Kathy, and she said after the fight scene was filmed, she went off by herself and cried for a few minutes, because when James is bashing her head into the floor, her head kept hitting the cut away parts of the floor (they had replaced with foam) but she said because she has a 'big fat head' it kept hitting the corners of the real wood flooring.

Kathy Bates did such a convincing and extremely terrifying performance as Annie Wilkes that ultimately turned out to be the most defining moment of her Hollywood career - this deservedly won her the Best Actress Oscar at the 1991 Academy Awards. Another brilliant movie adaptation of another superb story by Stephen King. Fabulous reaction, Jesse! 👍👍👍👍👍

She was absolutely brilliant! There were actually a few moments where I felt bad for her. Right after her line, "He didn't get out of the cockadoodie car", she looks around a bit and looks confused and almost afraid. When I was editing the reaction and I came to that moment, it just made me feel bad for her. She hit so many different emotions so damn well! I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction Trevor! Thanks so much for the feedback!

@jessebatres6895 - You're very welcome, Jesse. Many of Stephen King's most notable characters and stories are centered around the US state of Maine, which is where he and his family hail from. His longtime wife Tabitha is also an acclaimed author as well. Check out the movie "Thinner", which is one of his other stories that is written under his pseudonym alias Richard Bachman. It's a good popcorn movie that you can enjoy on a quiet weekend. Thanks again! 👍👍👍👍👍

Love your work/personality/narration. You really need to watch another Stephen King starring Kathy Bates called "Dolores Claiborne". There were indeed differences in the book. An axe instead of a sledgehammer. More bloody violence. It's been a while but I do remember long sections from the Misery book with all the n's filled in. I didn't think it was necessary and slowed the book down. There are a few adaptations that are better than the books and this was one of them for me. King was also stuck in the horror genre until he decided to release Different Seasons with The Body, Shawshank and two other novellas to show he could write non horror. I, myself, wrote several fan letters to him in the 80s so maybe I was part of the collective inspiration for this work. He was always kind and prompt with his responses. Try The Dark Half, adapted by George Romero. I also adapted it into a screenplay but that's another story.

My cousin and I had a choice between Misery and Home Alone at the theater one night with a bunch of other cousins and friends. I convinced her to see Misery and she freaked out at the sledgehammer scene. In the book, Annie made him drink dirty mop water. Of course there are always things in the books they can't integrate into the films. In King's novel Apt Pupil, it ended with a school shootout sniper-style from a tree. Couldn't put that in the movie because of Columbine. It'd be awesome if you could do more King movies. Sure you've seen It or the remake. Know you've reacted to The Shining. Pet Sematary would be a good choice and Carrie. 🖤🤘

@jeannellebroussard3138 - Another disturbing moment from the "Misery" novel which was not featured in the movie was when Annie decided to sever one of Paul's thumbs with an electric carving knife after he took exception to another one of the letter keys coming off the broken typewriter that he was working on. So mentally deranged was she at that point, Annie also presented Paul, who was completely paralytic with sick pain, with a birthday cake which had a "special candle" on top of it: his severed thumb. "The Dark Half" is another fantastic choice of Stephen King novel that deserves a good read too. 👍👍👍

Personally, I was on the side of the psychotic twin as your 'Paul Sheldon' persona in the bed, needed to have the shit kicked out of him just for wearing that fucking jumper! * Unless you've already seen them, I'd love you to react to the Stephen King films 'Cujo'(1983) and 'The Dead Zone'(1983) 😊

"I'm your number one fan." Fun Fact: Director Rob Reiner cameos as a helicopter pilot. Gun Enthusiast Fact: Annie's (Kathy Bates) revolver is a Colt Cobra "D" Frame .38 revolver. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: Annie's (Kathy Bates) jeep is a 1974 Jeep Cherokee S [SJ]. Paul's (James Caan) car is a 1966 Ford Mustang. Sheriff Buster's (Richard Farnsworth) car is a 1972 Chevrolet Blazer [K-5]. Lost In Adaptation Fact: While there were many minor changes from the novel, there was one major change. In the novel, Annie (Kathy Bates) cuts off Paul's (James Caan) foot to prevent him from escaping. Screenwriter William Goldman had stated that the reason he decided to adapt the book to film was because of this gruesome scene, and the effect it would have on the audience. However, Rob Reiner and Andrew Scheinman's script revision changed the method of torture to Paul getting his ankles broken with a sledgehammer. Goldman was opposed to the change until viewing the film. Typewriter Enthusiast Fact: The typewriter that Annie (Kathy Bates) buys for Paul (James Caan) to use is a Royal Model 10 typewriter. The Royal 10 was one of the first successfully mass produced typewriters which would set the technical standard for most typewriters that would follow it. Produced between 1914 and 1934, Paul's model can be pinpointed to be from 1914 to 1923 due to the double paneled beveled glass located on both sides of the machine. Models from 1924 to 1934 had only single paneled beveled glass. The 10 model would see use well after the model was discontinued as Royal Typewriters subsidiary Rigal Rebuilt would completely refurbish and rebuild the machines after they reached the intended lifespan giving the model many more years of use well into the 1950's and 60's. Due to its mass sales and twenty year production the Royal 10 remains one of the attainable typewriters that can be picked up by collectors of the machines in the 21st Century.

Awesome! So I think there might be a movie mistake in the dialogue. The Hotel owner says 65' Mustang. But that makes a bit of sense because he probably had a conversation with Paul about his car and in his head he remembered it as a 65' mustang. I might have to get me a type writer like that. I'm sure Stephen King films will have even more type writers as main props, so it would be cool to have one with a few typed pages that include quotes from his films.

The same man who would infamously gun down John Lennon outside his apartment in New York in December of 1980. That murder completely shocked the world - especially when Mark David Chapman had already obtained an autograph from Lennon himself only several hours before he killed him. Anti-stalking laws only started being officially put into operation in the United States after a mentally unstable loner had chillingly murdered the young actress Rebecca Schaeffer on the doorstep of her own home in 1989. Apparently, this psychotic individual took quite an exception to an erotic scene that Schaeffer had performed in one of her roles. So incandescent and outraged he was by this "sinful" act, he travelled to Schaeffer's private address and killed her in cold blood. Insane on many levels indeed. 😨

Thanks and great skit, Jesse! 🪵 What a coincidence? I just watched Ms. Bates' career retrospective, shot just over twenty years ago, from SAG-AFTRA. 🔸 If you'd like to have a prequel of sorts for the 'Annie Wilkes' character, be sure to check out Season 2 of CASTLE ROCK (2018 through 2019). Season 1 is a different tale, so not needed for this purpose. 🔸 You might remember that *Rob* *Reiner* also directed STAND BY ME (1986), which you reacted to last week. He's remarkable as both an actor and director. His other directorial efforts you might want to add to your list: the music/mockumentary THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984), the comedy/fantasy/romance THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987), the comedy/drama/romance WHEN HARRY MET SALLY (1989), the drama/military/court-process/thriller A FEW GOOD MEN (1992), the political-drama/comedy/romance THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT (1995), the drama/romance BEING CHARLIE (2015) and the documentary/comedy/biography ALBERT BROOKS: DEFENDING MY LIFE (2023).

I like his subtle style and seems to maintain a really good pace, based of these past 2 films I've watched. By the way, I hope you have a Happy Thanks Giving!
