My interpretation of this song, is that the people in a town all wished and prayed for life to be perfect and not have struggles, but when it happened, it was too perfect, and they realized that without any conflicts and struggles there really wasn't any point to life at all

As a Catholic, I love this song. Religion is good and all, but when all you do is pray and not act, you cannot use the gifts you were given, such as emotion and knowledge, to truly live the life you were meant to. Basically, you get out of life what you put in, and since they're giving nothing in their life because they think God will save them by himself, they're getting nothing out of life. So, they experience only misery, with no positive emotion, like love and joy, as well as no true knowledge because they think God will give them all of the knowledge they'd need. In short, this Andrew Horowitz classic shows the good and of bad religion, as well as that tallyhall music is amazingly composed. Well done!

My big theory about this song is that its about a town that relies too much on their religion to make changes. The second line of the chorus feels like someone is begging the listener to just believe and not worry about anything. The town just decides to stop any new information or education of any kind because they think that their god will sort everything out for them as long as they pray.

I always interpreted this song as a way of exploring the good and bad sides of religion. We have a town on the cusp of some kind of industrial revolution that's in a great state of misery. So to cope they adopt religion and the good side of religion comes in as it works to give them hope and happiness and something better to live for. But eventually the bad sides of religion comes in as they start abbandoning science and commit to book burnings and toxic positivity starts plagueing the people as they all grow too much reliance on their religion.
@ghoststudios3008 Жыл бұрын
My interpretation of this song is super simple, the good & evil album is all about extremes and this is a prime example, a town full of loveless people whove had their noses in books their whole lives realize that as they get older they have no family to pass their knowledge on to, theyre all alone together, lonely and with no children. They do a complete 180, whether that be on their own or with the help of the scholar mentioned in the song, and instead of focusing on their studies they neglect them entirely in favor of having fun and nourishing interpersonal relationships. Only problem is they take it too far, throwing out all their "chemistry books" for the "fair" or tickets, and now focus too much on fun and religious solace rather than focusing too much on studies. Theres a clear duality with "A town without love" (what it was previously) and "too much faith in above?" (What it is now) they now have lovers that kiss and children that wish, but nothing to give the children. And there are only two outcomes to this story, either the children find a healthy middle between the two or continue the cycle of extremes, its so fucking interesting...

I believe the meaning of this song is as follows A town is in a depression they are a smart town but with no hobby’s They turn to religion to add life to there lives They access what they need to do and a “wise”man tells them how. They use the word wise as it is a powerful word that means someone with very high intellect and should be trusted. The town then start giving up there jobs for the cults job this is referenced during the “Substitute pleasure for pain” line The cult then holds a fair. Which we get this line. “The “Bad Guys” surrender there chemistry books” this is telling people and referencing that bad people are the people who still haven’t gave in to the cult and are sticking with there jobs “Oh well” showing now that they gave up they can be welcomed. At the end it also says “with a welcoming song” showing that they welcome in the depressed people in the town to take away the worry about things which leads me into the last subject The line “Can you feel the force of not having to worry about things.” Is repeated a lot throughout the song This is because the town in a depression state not knowing what to do and just want to not worry about things the “wise man” knew this and came up with a plan to make everyone happy by indoctrinating them all in this new town. So to wrap things up here is the story in a few sentences: A Town is in depression. A man notices this and begins to catch people want of not to worry about anything. They follow him willingly. He condemns working there own jobs and holds a welcoming fair. This fair is successful bringing in a ton of scientists now indoctrinated. The welcoming song meaning just welcoming events are also successful as even the children are in on this. The town is born a new led by the “wise man.” But hey this is up to personal interpretation that’s just what I think

So basically: This song is very difficult for theorists to explain but here's the most logical theory: There's a town. And people that live there promised themselves that they're gonna spend their whole life writing books and getting smarter and smarter. However, they feel overworked from the work they gave themselves, and so without a second thought they just pray to gods for freedom, even though they are completely free to stop writing those books. In result, the town gets wiped out, probably because of people just not leaving their houses writing those books and just dying without having children or bonding with anyone else. So, to simplify all of this: People say 'Let's all start writing science books for the humanity so we will be the best people ever' and they do so and they overwork themselves but just pray to gods for freedom when they had their freedom all the time and they die bc writing these stupid books became their whole life and they basically go extinct. And the 'happy' parts of the song are basically looking at what the town could be/was before people started obsessing over writing these books. So yeah, an obsession with writing books made a town go extinct. That's the whole meaning. You can go home now. Bye.

The song kind of reminds me of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" from the twilight zone, kind of similar plot someone should make a movie based combined of two ideas into one movie OK here’s a plot a small town somewhere in Michigan Texas or California all the town residence wake up hurt is strange noise a crash ship UFO ship a Emma. Mysterious creature out of the ship, look like an Beautiful angel tell all of them write a book about their The meaning of life each people write down what the true meaning of life is they get published by the same publishing house all the people are mad at each other. Do you want the true meaning of life is read them they want the true meaning of life is people starting fighting each other axis, falling, knives and guns throwing people ran into other peoples houses. What the true meaning of life is the turns out the angel turns out it actually a alien from another planet, take over the world what destroy the world cliffhanger ending old narrator voice say the Earth is doom
