I think he meant SLOWER attack on the compressor to let the initial transient come through naturally before the comp pulls it down.

Totally agree. Simple is the best solution. If it sounds good leave it alone. I’ve found it incredibly easy to dial in a good sound with my newly acquired line 6 hx stomp. I don’t mess around too much passed the default settings for the most part. Now with the precision drive it’s unbelievable. I find that I don’t need a compressor either. It is more of just a feel thing. I use it as a slight boost and to even out the sound. And kind of a high low pass filter on 200hz and 5k for a more refined sound. You should never use compression or eq to make up for bad tone. Just to enhance and add that little extra something to an already good existing tone
@Nati2 жыл бұрын
4:39 it is actually the opposite. the faster you set the attack - the compressor it will activate quiker and wont let the note come through before it activates.
@jaykay04012 жыл бұрын
I think he meant that. I knew what he meant.
@eas262 жыл бұрын
Yeah, he meant to say higher rather than faster, with the higher value indicating a longer attack time.

This video made me fall in love with my Axe FX II again. I have the FM3 but there's something I really like about the Axe FX II tones. So raw and really cuts through the mix!
@thedudeofficial692 жыл бұрын
+1, the axe 3/fm3/fm9 sound more compressed and hairier. I really don't know what it is but the pre-Ares axe 2 tones are really, really, extraordinarily good to my ear.

@@thedudeofficial69 More realism does not always make it better i guess :)
@thedudeofficial696 ай бұрын
@@Poepopdestoep Honestly it's possible to dial in usable tones on just about anything if you're persistent enough. The main benefit of realism is playing through it in real time. Once you listen back, I find that you don't hear the nuances in feel/realism as much as you notice them while playing. I still agree with what I said in that old comment, even though I'm using an FM3 now. I will say, as the axe 3 family has seen more firmware updates, it's grown on me. I've also found that turning the input trim & master vol. down reduces the hairy thing I mentioned. I'd argue that even if they sound a little different with identical settings, they can be compensated for the differences to a point where nobody would notice it in a mix.

The AXE-EDIT editor is too small and difficult to see. There's a lot of empty screen real estate. I don't own one of those units so I don't know if you're locked into that size, but if you can expand it for future videos, that would be better.

@ibanezrg320fm2 жыл бұрын
Are you confusing up and down with left and right? The signal chain in the Axefx starts from the left with an input and ends to the right with an output. He's only got input, amp, cab, output. Later he adds the compressor and drive block so it's input, compressor, drive, amp, cab, and output. It's only one signal chain in the video. Hope that answers your question.

A bit of advice to the armature home producers. You don't need the same plugins that he's using nor do you need to make your tone sound exactly like his. Learn from many different sources. Mess around with things on your own. Trial and error. I'm only saying this because when you watch so many videos on "guitar tones" you fall into this self imposed trap of thinking you have to mimic others. That is not the case. Do what sounds good to you. Experiment and have fun.
