Oh please!!!! Miss Hawaii that year was the rightful winner. She was witty, and gorgeous!! MISS New York and Miss Hawaii were great friends that's why she was very happy for her!

Her talent was fine, well presented, sexy, entertaining. Better than many of the other singers interestingly. If you watch Hawaii's interview - it's easy to see why she was a contender right away. Some of the other interviews were pretty painful.

There were several Bitterellas clapping and shaking their heads in the back, all of whom didn't make top 10 or any non-finalist award - it was evident live in the Hall but even visible on here - Idaho, Georgia, Kentucky, Rhode Island even make faces and shake their heads. Word has it, Carolyn's private interview was fine, talent passable to good - sexy and sold it, top in gown and swimsuit. She had a good chunk of the general audience (and many in the press) rooting for her actually.

New York overreacted because she DID NOT want to win Miss America. Someone had posted saying "Miss New York did not want to win. She had set up plans to work at an opera house after her reign as Miss New York and winning Miss America would have "thrown a monkey wrench" into that plan, and there would have been no guarantee there would be room for her after she completed her reign."
