When I was born my parents rented a little house from Miss Annie. It was right behind her home. Her money was kept in a cigar box, not a cash register. We moved to Michigan when I was 3. I remember one time she opened her cigar box and told me to get out anything I wanted. I didn't, but she gave me $5. That would had been a lot of money for a kid in the early 60's. My mother-in-law had lost her mom at an early age. Leaving her father with 7 or 8 kids to raise. Papaw sent her to get him a bottle at Ms.Annies , she looked younger than her age and no drivers license to prove it. Ms Annie refused to sell her any alcohol until she told her that her dad sent her to get it. She asked what her father's name was..that was all it took...she then sold it to her, for him.
