SUMMER SOLSTICE
A beautiful legend
Tells how summer solstice
Which used to be a random day
Became the longest one
Thanks to the good King of Dragonflies
Back then, humans got so mean
They had to give one soul back to heaven
A noble soul agreed to get sacrificed
That’s how far a father’s love can go
The good King set out in the night
Leaving his kingdom behind
Without yet guessing he would never see
Another summer
Then in the faintest light of the day
As the sun began to shine
His beautiful soul began to rise
And every dragonfly began to cry
The sun got so upset
He did not know what to do
To comfort these orphan dragonflies
He started shining, so bright, so long
To guide the good king passing out
He did shine, so bright, so long
Keeping the day out of the dark
And his sorrow was so strong
That the night did not dare to come
Until very very late
From then, June 21
Which was meant to be the shortest day
Became the longest one
To pay tribute to the good old King
He’s been resting under a Hawthorn tree
On top of his favorite mountain
From where he looks upon his dear valley
Enlightened by the sun
Take a walk on summer evenings
And if you see dragonflies
At the bend of a river
Send some love to their good King
…And remember when
The sun got so upset
He did not know what to do
To comfort these orphan dragonflies
