people talk about the trigger lyrics so much. I think the most meaningful lyrics are "I miss missing you a now and a then." has there ever been someone in your life that was gone for a while of time, and when they came back were way different and you'd rather just go back to missing them? miss missing them. Most of the time when someone comes back into my life im at a low point. Sometimes before it gets better then darkness gets bigger... and that person when they come back i'd do stuff for them just to be double crossed. Yeah. I feel that way about my old friend Maddie. We broke off for a while, came back, now broken off again. No matter. I sorta liked it better when we weren't talking. She loved to cause drama. I was pretty much getting tired of her too. She forced me to do things I didn't want to do. Thankfully, she didn't try to make me smoke, drink, or party. She DID want to try to set me up with one of her exes. That didn't happen. I made sure. I didn't even meet him, which made me feel better.

That's certainly an interesting way of looking at it. For me I listen to this song when someone that's gone crosses my mind after I've already gotten over them as best I can. Can we just talk about the line "baby you where my picket fence"? Like it's so underrated. There's so much meaning in this one line. A picket fence being this common goal - for example in the American dream - owning a house with your loved one with a picket fence in the front garden, it's magical. You can tell this person - whether metaphorical or not - meant alot to Patrick or pete, they were 'his' or 'their' dream, they miss craving that person, they miss missing them. And now they're gone, or at least, the feelings may have. All in all, this song is beautiful both in lyrics and melody, it's been one of my favourites for ages 😊

Although I'm probably interpreting it differently than it's probably intended, but I understand what the lyrics are telling ME. Basically describes me and my current ex.
