The daf is played remarkably well by the drummer of the Goruh-e Mastan, a remarkable Iranian traditional music ensemble. Mind-blowing. It is closely linked to the Irish bodhran, which has some amazing exponents. Iranian players normally hold the drum in the air, and it's hard to see how they keep control of it. I don't find Quadriga very convincing. They're not one thing or another

Denis MacEoin Please tell me more about how the Irish bodhran is closely linked to the Daf and why you mention the drummer of Gorooh e Mastan and the daf. I don´t see any "iranian drumming" here at all. Not instrument-wise, not music-wise, not at all. Not traditional this or that. Delavarda´s beautiful point was "No matter where the instrument comes from, who plays it and how plays it, the important thing is that Art can save us and bring us together" - which I appreciate very much. If you don´t like the music - no problem, go ahead, that´s a matter of taste. If you need to pigeon-hole things...well, why don´t you listen to things that can be more effectively pigeon-holed. Have a nice day.
