I have seen Miss Saigon multiple times now, but when you have seen Lea Salonga as Kim once it will never be the same with any other actress in that role. Nobody compares to Lea, the queen of Broadway and Westend! Not only her voice, but also the emotion she delivers is absolutely unique.

I remember the first time I heard this. I hated Ellen. Then, when I saw it, I was so angry at Chris…and sad for both women, but especially devastated for Kim.

Years ago I've seen this musical in the great Circus Theater in Scheveningen. The duet and the song of Chris' wife was one of the most intense musical songs I've ever seen and heard. The musical star who played Chris' wife did receive an even bigger applause than the two main stars! (One advise: please listen also to Bui Doi of this musical 😍!)

Fabulous isn't it. Saw this in London during the previews 1989 original cast, no Ruthie Henshaw though. Very first musical I'd seen live cried all the way though. seen it several times since.

I’ve seen this stage production twice, once on Broadway and once in San Francisco!! To me, Ellen is the villain of the story, she accuses Chris of “lying”, when in reality what he does is keep that devastating part of his life to himself, he doesn’t share it with anyone. He doesn’t interact with anyone when he returns from Vietnam, then he meets Ellen and they marry. He doesn’t know that he fathered a child and when he finds out five years later, he immediately tells Ellen. Chris and Kim are faced with heartbreaking decisions, but Ellen selfishly thinks of herself, in every song that she sings. 10/10… I’d see it again!! “I’d Give My Life For You” is my favorite song from this play💗

I don’t know if I agree. Ellen had no idea of Kim when she met Chris. It’s not her fault. They are all affected by the war. The true villain besides the war is the Engineer. To me he thinks only of himself. Ellen is willing to help Kim and Tam out financially. She is not selfish, just torn
