how time flies!! i was 12 yrs old in 1973 when i watched the miss universe only because miss phils won. i didn't pay much attention then until 1974 when the contest was held in manila. and our tv sets was only in black and white. if you had a color tv, you were rich then. since then, i have watched every miss universe to this day. i can compare the decades of candidates and the times, the girls, the whole show have truly evolved. only goes to prove the only thing permanent is change. beauty is truly shaped by the changing times.

Philippines won that year maybe because the judges saw her stood out from among those beautiful latinas & europeans who wore the same hairstyles. They're all pretty but looked the same. Philippines opted to be different. Even the greek photographers chose her as Ms Photogenic. She must have something different from the other girls, which the judges liked.

Truly its a wealth of Filipinos that they are very fluent in communicating in English and would be very spontaneous in answering the most difficult questions in simple ways. During that time where majority of the contestants failed to express themselves in English, Philippines , ms Margarita Moran, eloquently and clearly express herself to the world how she would be a productive and ideal citizen of the world by owning a place to stay and be happy with it by sharing it as well to other people. That's Ms Philippines spark during 1973 contest. Congrats Ms Philippines! My fellow Filipino .=)

the candidates are truly natural beauties , you can really notice that there are no enhancements done just plain beauty and make-up to highlight their features. even when they walk its natural unlike nowadays walking the pasarela is looking so funny and un-natural as if they are always walking in the ramp. Did you know that Miss Universe 1972 Australia's Kerry Anne Wells was already a mother of a 4 year old boy when she won the crown? When the secret was known by MU Org., they initially wanted to dethrone her and offered it to her 1st runner up from Brazil.After careful consideration and much thought,they reinstated Wells and kept the secret to the public since the org didn't want any scandal to tarnish the image of the pageant.

The winner was very appropriate. She was the one. Style, poise, elegance, class and smart. She was a favourite of the international press as well as the Greek press. However, the 1st Runner-Up should have been Miss Spain. But Miss Israel - a very stupid woman. A wonderful, historic and beautiful venue and setting. What a gift and honour for the contestants and MU Org. Also the host, Mr. Bob Barker, there is nothing to say but what a natural, professional host and character. Forever the best!

That Spanish Interpreter was horrible. She did a very poor job with Spain. Miss Israel had plenty of time t think of the final answer so she sabotaged herself. Miss Norway was lovely but very, very cold. The look she gave Miss USA when she joined her at the 5 finalists was a look that could kill. Miss USA was lovely but gave a very pageant patty answer. Miss Phillipines had a huge overbite but was the most poised and carried hersel well.

I think that was Miss Norway's demeanor: rather aloof. She also looks much too thin (granted, all the "delegates" are thin...) and gave a terrible final answer: I think she said Norwegians are not friendly, unlike Greeks. Never a good idea to put your own country down. But they should really have translators ready for all "delegates" who need them -- and not just pull people out of the audience...

Bob Barker hosted the Miss USA & Miss Universe pageants from 1967 to 1987 when they were on CBS. CBS carried Miss USA, Miss Universe & Miss Teen USA until 2002. NBC televised from 2013 until January of 2015.
