The same happened to Miss Mexico 1978 Martha Ortiz at Miss World when the Miss World commentator worked as translator to her and it was frightening, I assume it was the cause why she lost the crown

Same as Miss Vietnam during Miss Universe 2018, her answer was so outstanding, but the interpretor's translation didn't match her statement at all. I guess lost the title because of that :( I feel bad for her

tienes toda la razón crei q solo yo lo había notado, pero si la lupe hizo trampa bueno mas bien la organización señorita mexico y el presidente salinas habían comprado ya esa corona para la lupe, sin duda la beneficiaron asi quien no va a contestar bien la pregunta si ella ya sabia de que se trataba además todo estaba mas que arreglado lo dijo el señor que era dueño de esa organización en esa época dio a entender que el pidió a Jorge rivera y el puma para que votaran por mexico ese año a usa le interesaba por el tratado de libre comercio de lo contrario lupe nunca hubiera ganado, ni digo q no sea inteligente pero en esa época se veía mas la belleza física y ella no la tenia, habían como lo dijo miss España regrasando a su país que habían 40 mejor que lupe que ellas notaban las preferencias para ella y todo estaba rreglado para que la lupe ganara era l que le convenia a la organización y al país usa por el tratado de libre comercio de lo contrario lupe ni al top 6 hubiera llegado, tenia un cuerpo horroroso parecía cuerpo de hombre igual su cutis llenos de barros que les cubrían con maquillaje la verdad ella nunca fue bella astuta sii bastante zorra diría yo por eso gano no por bella y pues muchas no estuvieron contentas conque ganara lupe porque ya se sabia q estaba mas que comprada la corona para ella...

Lupita was obvious frontrunner that year. She's first in preliminaries and swept all competition areas that night in first place.. The other's are only competing for the runners up position. The final interview is important, but most likely the judges already know who to vote based on overall performance

Aqui ocurrio lo mismo q en el 93 en mexico, las tres finalista fueron dos gigantonas de 1-80cms( colombia y venezuela) y la bajita (puerto rico) y gano la bajita, clarobq aca si ganaba lupita limpiamente, pero en mexico 93 metieron mano para q colombia no se ganara la corona, y q coincidencia lupiya fue jurado en ese MU y dijo al final q no sabia q ocurrio por q el jurado habia dado de MU 93 a miss colombia paula betancourth, lo mismo dicho por el jurado cuevas y maria conchita alonso! En fin..

oh my, so this is Lupita Jones' final answer. if Ximena was asked the same question in 2010 and she answered the same, I don't think the judges would give her the crown. Amazing, I expected Lupita to say crime or corruption, but she intelligently say its free trade (agreement) probably with the U.S. Ms. Netherlands also had a good answer but she referred to a global problem, not really a Dutch problem, while Yulia Lemigova just didn't know what to answer or maybe she's kinda scared.

Note at 3:16 that the door to the isolation booth is left ajar and Lupita Jones tries to close it but it doesn't close all the way and she leaves it like that. It's quite possible she heard the question and this gave her an even better advantage. In retrospect, and considering the way she has behaved for the last 27 years and how she has treated the girls under her preparation, with disdain and contempt, stating that she wanted to be the only Miss Universe Mexico had, she did not deserve to win, that night. She had a haughty arrogance that was subtly evident and although I don't think that Netherlands deserved to be ranked so high, the top 3 should have been Venezuela (who gave an outstanding answer in the Judge's questions, Jamaica who had the unassuming sweetness and USSR who charmed everyone. Any of those three would have made an outstanding Universe.
