Miss Universe Philippines 2022 National Costume Presentation

The Philippine textile industry is an integral part of our uniquely beautiful history.
It represents the rich stories and craftsmanship of different tribes and communities throughout the archipelago.
It is part of the fabric of our national identity.
Aside from promoting our tourism, the Miss Universe Philippines Organization also aims to promote and put forward Filipino textiles and weavings because these are treasures we can't afford to lose. This is an industry we want to continue and help strengthen.
The theme for this year’s National Costume presentation is HABI (weaving) :
30% of our finalists' costumes should be comprised of Philippine textiles or weaving.

I can say that our Filipino designers are now on the next level. The outdoor setting is perfect, the cameraman did his homework, the song fits perfectly, And the candidates did well in presenting their NatCos. I really love it when the cameraman is letting us to see the details of the costume with a good video quality. Good job to you all!

Culturally speaking, Ms. Iloilo Province has the best NatCos. It is handcrafted directly by Panay-Bukidnon Tribe, an IP located in Iloilo. She embodied Habi as this year's theme from the textile & literally her natcos is about weaving. Most of all, Miss Iloilo Province natcos has the least colonial influence by using a textile that has been made way before colonialism.

I didn't say it stood out aesthethically but definitely worth knowing it's cultural heritage. Also, the tribe that made it is actually with her in her Tourism video kaya I know how she and her team really went through abt this. Despite of the look, Habi is a cultural presentation of Philippine textile & it's amusing to see an ancient textile b4 Spaniards pa na represented in this especially walang glitters or any shiny elements except few ornaments.

Axel Que never cease to amaze me. I was mesmerized with Bea's costume last year. Love what she created for Chantal here. It's a homage to paruparu (butterfly) and Cebuano lepidopterist Jumalon just like Tracy Maureen Perez's costume for MUPH in 2020. The craftmanship is impressive. Miss Cebu City is giving me 1900s carnival queen vibes. The creation of other Cebuano designers were also impressive. I love the playfulness of Lou's costume and she looked like was having fun. And Isabel's sabong-inspired attire was definitely a standout! Miss Mandaue is the David among a sea of Goliaths in this pageant. Is it just me who noticed that Lapu-Lapu City's costume, also from Que, looks like it was put together from leftovers from Tracy's moon goddess Mayari for Miss World?

First off, I appreciate that the org made sure Philippine textile is incorporated in their costumes. What a great way to promote the industry. Then, Aklan coming in in that dramatic black terno, what a way to start the parade of costumes! Great editing!👏🏻 I love how the camera zooms in so we can see the full details of these beautifully crafted ensembles. Aklan- very mysteriously dangerous (dark horse) in black terno which fits her like a glove. Bulacan’s stained glass filipiñana concept, really cool but poorly constructed. Cebu Province looked so much fun in her banig costume 👍🏻! DavNor- Love it! Ilo-ilo City/Province- my top two fave costumes! Misamis Oriental- she’s in the top 5 for presentation. Pangasinan- I thought this was a cute. Fun design & color. Her presentation is underwhelming. Taguig- lol 🤭 Very few of these girls knew how to present their costumes. I was cringing watching most of the girls just walk and stand there, they don’t know how to project what their costumes stand for or what they represent. I hate those platform hooker heels. At least cover or hide them under the skirt. Height isn’t even a requirement in MUPH.

I am glad that they took the time to really showcase the pieces. More camera exposure this time as compared to how it was done last year. The costumes are really well-made and deserve all the attention they could get. I also like that they show the names of the designers. They deserve credit for their works of art. It is not easy to look and stay beautiful under those costumes, considering that they shot this outdoors and during day time. I can only imagine the heat, especially in Ilocos.
