Usually they PAY their own way to the next port. Cruise Ship Captains give Passengers plenty of leeway in returning to the ship. They advise passengers to get back at least an hour BEFORE departure time. However, if there are people missing when it comes time to leave, they usually give them an extra 30 minutes or so, never more than that - why? They have to get to the next Port on time, and if they are running late, they have to burn more fuel to go faster. Cruise Ship fuel is expensive
@davethaler50477 жыл бұрын
korian73 most cruise ships have a pilot boat in SOME locals....cost.... $450.00 to get a ride out to ship....charged to room....PER PERSON!

For anyone who is confused as to why the giant ship full of 4,000 other people who somehow managed to get there on time, didn't go back...when is the last time you were late for a flight that had already taken off, and the pilot saw you screaming and cursing, and he turned around, landed, they opened up the door, and waited patiently for you to board even though it was 100% your fault for being late....NEVER! The answer is never.

From a Travel Agent, If you book any excursion with the cruise line, they must wait for you. If you do anything on your own, the ship can and will leave you behind. You must then find transportation to the next port and rejoin the ship. P.S. waving your arms at the cruise ship does nothing but make for good videos.

Same with either the Carnival Freedom or Splendor, the Cruise Director “John “ continued to inform the passengers of a couple, late in returning at 2 ports, their 3rd time, the ship left without them. The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, thank you Spock
@tonik27345 жыл бұрын
Saw that video!! They should have not been allowed to get off the ship after the second time. If they didn’t learn how to read time then they aren’t responsible enough to be expected to get back on time. So... or better yet...leave port on time and maybe they will learn to read time.

From what I have read, security will open the cabin and search for the passport. It will then be handed to the cruise line's representative in the port just prior to departure. It is then up to the passenger to find a way to the next destination of the ship in time.

James Medlin ... Cruise ships pay docking fees just as planes pay landing fees. The more popular ports have fairly tight schedules, even if returning for a passenger that cannot read a watch was a possibility the costs would be highly prohibitive. Life lessons cost money, time, effort, energy, etc - I hope he learns something positive from this situation. The costs he caused himself to incur would be substantial. He has only himself to blame.

Good thing I'm going to Nassau just to windowshop (I've practically did all the excursions there, thank you) and return to the my ship (the Disney Dream) at lunchtime. If I have time until the production show or dinner, I'd watch the pier runners! Goofballs...

They know that the folks on the Norwegian Sky don't play that. Mickey might allow it from time to time but if Norwegian sets a time to be back, than you best get your but off that scenic trail and be back on the boat "30-90 mins" before departure. Got a schedule to keep k. Now he has to walk "ALL THE WAY BACK" and see if someone can book him a room at The Atlantis. Cant believe he didnt read up on the does and don'ts when taking a cruise. Especially when traveling on the Sky.

I wrote this before and I'll write it again. Always keep a waterproof watch that is set to the SHIP TIME and not the local time. I am always back on board at least a 1/2 to 1 hour before I have to. Once a ship as been cleared and is sailing, it's not like a car and just reverse. There is too much port paperwork to simply go back. Be responsible and get your ass back to the ship or be like the people in the above video.
