at 15:18, the quote is actually "You can't repeat [not 'change'] the past." Which suggests that Gatsby's view of love is aligned with the poem perhaps? - he doesn't see time as having an effect on love. Or conversely, that he sees love is wholly dependent on time - he maybe thinks their love will only be able to succeed if he recreates this certain moment in time (+ his new wealth).
