I truly hope people can respect anyone who has had enough of their life as it is and go ahead and do something we all wouldn't have the courage to do - go away and start over. The dad killing himself gives me the impression that the family wasn't exactly.... the best environment for her, but that's speculation. Leave her alone. Just respect everyone's wishes unless they infringe on someone else's freedom. No matter how she ends up, she wanted to take control. Kudos to her. Even if it came from a manic episode or similar, she won't end up in a jungle without food. When you're manic, you just do everything impulsively but you are still quite in control of what you want. But I don't believe she's sick because she was intelligent enough to have her bag sent to her, cross the border, ditch the phone etc. I agree with LE in this one. She's voluntarily missing. So, in my case and experience with mental issues, on top with very difficult family dynamics, I give my opinion based on those. After all, I truly believe most people truly are compassionate - but we can never truly put ourselves in someone's shoes, as poetic and beautiful as that might sound, because we haven't lived their life, their background, their childhood, etc. Sorry, I just always try to explain that empathy is not the way to go but compassion is! So, given my POV being informed by these angles, I have the opinion/speculation of someone that truly... has had enough. I've been manic, I've had psychosis - you name it. Never ever was I composed enough to carry such a feat. Manic people can certainly act completely normal - it is true.But someone manic feels awfully happy (and I say awfully literally - it's exhausting, as much of an amazing feeling it can be). Mental issues or not, I never believe any family or loved ones can ever speak on behalf of the ones they thought they knew... I do believe all of us have something deep inside ourselves that rarely comes out and goes against everything we've ever "shown" other people. I do not give that much weight to expressions like "we know they wouldn't do this", etc. Because it's not true - if they did end up doing something, it means you REALLY did NOT know they were capable of such, which means you didn't know them that well (which, again, is normal because we all have... moments where we can truly snap and lose it). Given the whole situation and what the dad went through, along with my belief/opinion that she was escaping a certain lifestyle she couldn't handle anymore, I understand why she would do things that her family would deem "weird". After all, leaving all behind including access to your family IS weird, it IS different, it IS radical - it will certainly appear as weird, as worrying, etc. Whatever truly happened (and I do hope she is indeed voluntarily gone) I wish her peace and I wish that her family understands that people can make choices. And instead of choosing violence, of choosing destruction, maybe we should accept people who decide to just leave with more compassion as you say - those people are absolutely the "best" ones out there. They don't hurt anyone on their way. They just... up and go. Most cases we hear about in media is about people who snapped, and who, instead of changing their lives... ended up hurting others because they couldn't deal with things. So, if she is happy with her choice, her family and loved ones have to be at peace with it - one day.
