This video will show and elaborate on MissingNo. in all six official languages of Pokémon Red/Blue and Pokémon Yellow (Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish), how its sprites differ, its base stats, typings and starting moves. The Pokédex entries of the MissingNo. are also shown at the end of the video.

Edit 2: An addendum from GlitchedPokemonStudent! A non-freezing battle from MissingNo. in Red/Green can appear if you lock the sound bank values (C0EF and C0F0) to valid values. Like Japanese Yellow MissingNo., it may trigger a Trainer battle. However, GlitchedPokemonStudent says he only tried it on an unofficial translation of the game, so effects may be different on the official Japanese versions.

I believe it's due to how the ROM gets compiled after the different data for each localization is included. Missingno.'s sprite is just the game reading garbage data. The variances in localization included changes to the stuff that's being read as garbage.

That reminds me. Something has been bugging me of Bulbapedia not having information related to glitch Pokemon in Pokemon Green. Is there any reason why? I understand it's Japanese-exclusive, but they're completely different compared to Red and Blue releases. I had no idea that this thing had other cries. I've only ever found the variants that sound like a short Nidoran cry and one that sounds like Zapdos, and the Ghost one (I always got that one as my real name is only 3 letters) both at level 80 and over 100. I also found one variant that only knew Tri Attack and it didn't have a cry. I haven't played this game in years and I'm still fascinated by Missingno.

I knew that the game was freezing in the french versions of red/blue (I'm French), because I used to use the "Cinnabar Island surf Glitch" when I was young and I learnt later it was because of a glitched pokemon. Concerning Yellow, because the "surf glitch" was patched, I never new that It was possible to find MissingNo. Little question : Are the side effect of encountering MissingNo the same on each version (concerning the cloning effect of the sixth object in the bag for example) ?

You cant trade with certain Versions. For example you cant trade between Japanese and Other Versions. I simply crashes. As for "regular" trading. It would simply become what his ID is for that Game. o:

Sticky Galoop I once traded a Mewtwo for a Kabutops over a link cable that had been used to trap a crap ton of MissingNo (the cable had been yanked out during those trades apparently. Not my cable btw.) within it. Somehow neither Pokémon came out to the games and when my friend at the time fought against the one who owned the cable, after a few Pokémon past did things actually get weird. Pokémon from their PC Boxes started to appear at LV 100 and fought them as if they were in a wild Pokémon battle. (Mewtwo and Kabutops showed up again after the box Pokémon were defeated. Needless to say, we stopped using that cable.

MissingNo. becomes a Pokémon from Generation II when traded to it (numbered after Scizor). That means that the first two generations had the Time Capsule exploit glitch. There are also other glitch Pokémon. WARNING: Encountering the forms from Yellow version may cause the game to freeze.

Hm, considering some of these MissingNo.'s have unique cries that differ from any others in the game, it's possible these are the cries of whatever Pokemon used to be in that ID slot, as they were used as placeholders for Pokemon that were removed.

When you give yourself a MissingNo on french Red version and check its profile, its sprite won't be volatile and will always be blank. MissingNo's pokedex entry (which you can get by setting byte 8 of D309 and D31C (D30E and D321 on french version)) have the sprite blank as well. Any idea why the sprite is different than the battle sprite ?

Because it's read from VRAM probably, which contains different data if you're in battle or in a status screen.

This was always something I was curious about.... Honestly, I thought only the Japanese, and the localized versions had different Missingnos, I wasn't aware however that ALL the versions of the game had their own Missingno.. It's a shame most of them seem to be unstable.... But, I have a question. Can any version of it completely corrupt your game data, rendering it unplayable? If so... that might actually confirm some people saying it can destroy your game. Since it's harmless in the English version, I thought for awhile that was just a myth. But now I'm not 100% sure....

Any missingno or glitch Pokemon that causes a game crash (particulary those with height and/or width of 0) have potential to corrupt the save. Won't happen often but SRAM could randomly become corrupted depending on which junk code the game ends up executing. This actually is a lot more likely to occur in the VC due to how some invalid opcodes are treated by the emulator.

Nope, sorry, that's not what happened - it would have at least let me start the game again in that case, it just wouldn't have let me save. This wouldn't even let me past the title screen, as I remember it at least, definitely couldn't access my save file or start a new one. This was back when R/B was new, before Gen 2 had even come out - no way the battery died *that* fast, given my Red cart and replacement Blue cart had save batteries that lasted for over a decade, and the first Blue cart I had lasted maybe a year, and I refuse to believe my battery was THAT bad, or otherwise magically damaged by some outside physical force at conveniently the same time I was screwing around with MissingNo.. And there have been other documented cases just like mine where carts have been ruined by it, I've been reassured of this. MissingNo. is more dangerous than anyone likes to give him credit for, as I learned the hard way.

Well it's not common but it can happen. The issue is Missingno corrupts the state of the game as it's happening. all it takes is the wrong value of corrupted hall of fame data to screw something up.

Some are harmless but others are really harmful my missingno in the virtual console version of red is fine but if I check it's stats my trainer sprite gets jumbled up It gets easily restored if I check the stats of my other Pokémon.

Because names depend on index number, while sprite pointers depend on Pokedex number. MissingNo does have a properly assigned index number (many), but not Pokedex number. There is data for 190 Pokemon by index number, but only for 151 Pokemon by Pokedex number.

Japanese Yellow MissingNo reminds me of 4(h4? (Hex:ED in English Yellow), French Red and Blue MissingNo is like 4 4, and German Yellow one corrupts the audio similarly to Female Symbol in English Yellow.

THEORY: Missingno. was supposed to be the first bird type pokemon. It is fully functional, just broken bc you aren't supposed to actually see it (It can battle, has moves and uses them correctly and can learn moves, has stats, actual name, etc). Bird Typing, and it has Wingull moves, perhaps supposed to be gen. 1 Wingull? Missingno is either Gen. 1 Wingull or SCRAPPED BIRD POKEMON! (Also Missingno has an eye and mouth on the sprite am I the only one who noticed?)
