Watching you two in the first few minutes where it seemed like you thought this would be a piece of cake, I could see the 5/4 meter and the syncopated patterns coming. I grew up watching the real Mission Impossible, the series with Peter Graves as Jim Phelps, so I remember sounding out the theme song by Lalo Schifrin. Great music, and you both did a good job on it given the constraints. Also this was a fun mid-summer video.

I recently tried playing both parts on guitar (with limited success). I discovered that the original theme from the TV show is in 5/4, but the theme used in the movies adds an extra note to the bass line and it's played in 6/4, which makes it a bit easier to play. I still prefer the 5/4 version.

Toppenheimers. So much fun. "I can't read," she said, "it's in 5/4 and we (classicalists) are not used to that." Starts playing the opening and I hear a clear 4/4. Then the sheet music pops up into the edit and the opening clearly says 4/4. Girl, where are your reading glasses? Imagine a jazz piece in 19/8 with changing subdivision and now having to find musicians that can play it (Don Ellis [1934-1978], "33 222 1 222", recorded live at 1966 Monterey Jazz Festival). Talk about MI.
