Reminds me of a Voyager episode where an inhabited planet had a tachyon core and was out of sync with the rest of spacetime. One day for them occurred about every 1.03 seconds of Normal time. The crew literally watched the go from the stone age to bronze age in just a few hours. It was an interesting watch. Episode name was "Blink Of An Eye"

The Orville writers used that Voyager episode plus the multi-dimensional phasing planet that Jadzia tried to stay on in DS9 plus the TNG Mintakan episode where there's risk of Picard becoming a god to the primitive culture the Federation is trying to observe. Plus the statute is reminiscent of Jayne's in Firefly. They really rounded the scifi bases with this one.
@OneGaurdian7 ай бұрын
That one had a more valid setup as what happened here was a single, isolated incident that shouldn't have had such an impact on the planet's people. Whereas in the Voyager episode the ship was stuck in orbit over the planet for a thousand years - by the natives' perspective - maintaining a long-standing presence in their lives.

The streaming services have really compartmentalized access. You can no longer count on syndication to eventually make the shows available to all and the decreasing demand for DVD's will soon remove the home DVD avenue. Aside from subscribing to multiple streaming services, the future is bleak for the consumer unless the pay per show model that KZbin and Google play have takes off but I can see Disney holding onto it's vault mentality and keeping demand high by only infrequently allowing access is bad news for us viewers but at least new episodes might continue to be funded even if access will be sporadic and expensive.

Only for their world to reappear 11 days later, 700 years more advanced having changed their minds. Good news though, within few years, they'd either have killed themselves or evolved into glowing space fairies and stopped caring about us.
@urbypilot21364 жыл бұрын
@@cgi2002 That makes it even worse for them. They can't colonize beyond their planet, because their homeworld would advance 700 years every 11 (Earth-standard) days. The inhabitants of their extra-planetary colonies will be left behind by those who live in their homeworld. Even if they become a post-scarcity society, they'd eventually run out of resources just on their own planet. Perhaps even before they reach that point of their evolution (if that's really where evolution goes). In the end they only have a window of 11 days every 700 years to gather resources beyond their planet.

This is possibly one of the most dangerous planets that may exist, if they advance 700 years every 22 days (11 in our universe, 11 in theirs by our time) they can come back in just another short span of time with technology we can't even imagine, and they may not always be friendly. They could easily make the Kaylon look like tin cans in 3 months time.
@Lazarultos2 жыл бұрын
Super late response, but they'd only be a threat to the Orville's universe if they master control over time itself, because any ships they send out only have a short period of time to act before they are stranded in the Orville's universe and unable to return home, and by the time the planet reappears their society may be radically different and might have even completely forgotten about their ships and their mission. Anything that flies away during the re-emergence risks throwing itself out of existence for a purpose that the people who sent it out for will never get to benefit from. Logically speaking, they would focus only in their own universe and not The Orville's as there's too much risk for very little gain to send ships out during the re-emergence.
