No shit, 2 years ago I was working for an un-named HVAC and mechanical company and we had a scenario almost exactly like this happen. We went up into the crawlspace above a local law enforcement center to fix a ceiling duct that had collapsed. When we got up there we found a family of raccoons that had moved in and made a home with used bits of paper and insulation from the crawlspace. We exited immediately when the mother (presumably) decided to go on the offensive on me and my partner. We told the watch captain that they had a raccoon nest, about 10mins into waiting on animal control officers we started smelling and visibly seeing smoke in the corridor we were in. We left the building after the alarms started sounding and about an hour later half or better of the entire building was up in flames at 3PM on a Wednesday. It was the craziest day of working for that company I ever had in the 8 years with them.
