wherever you are, considering typical "military" and "mining" is involved, i'm getting a lot of old world ruins vibes from this place...like some paul cook stuff found in malta/UK etc. The "old" buildings you see there, like the castle...they're certainly the "newer" part built on top of what was already built out and destroyed long ago...my 2 cents.

The military area was a civil prison from 1860 and became military prison after 1950. Since then the territory has always been controlled by military but there is actually no one, like another fortress nearby. Sometime they use the area and the coast outside the prison for trainings of “guardia costiera”.

Island Palmaria in front of Porto Venere. Is possible to visit it a part from the military area, if they catch you there is not the best. The part of the cave is beautiful but there’s a lot of very dangerous spots.
