Kanyakumari district, I have been associated with since the 1970s, especially the suchindram temple and later I lived in a small village called Aralvaimozhi, before the start of windmills in the early 90s. I was shocked to see the rapid conversion and I had students from this district, so let me share what is going on? I met missionaries in Germany, who were spreading the gospel message in this district since 70s and it is large International network, they are rich and powerful. Our simpleton Tamil people fall prey to this decorating Jesus Christ during Christmas with cotton wool for snow. The problem with Tamil people is they are lovely and Jesus loves them. That is the problem and I think temples in Tamilnadu need to do a lot to bring back lost traditional practices and customs and integrate the society with the deity. These elements will disappear on their own.

Bishop Robert Caldwell was WRONG when he classified Kannada and Telugu as "Dravidian" languages. It is clear to me that only Tamil and Malayalam qualify. I speak both Tamil and Kannada, and clearly see the profound influence of Sanskrit on Kannada and Telugu. By the way, Caldwell is pronounced with the CA pronounced as in the word CALL. Not as in CALLOUS. But anyhow, the extent of conversions to Christianity and Islam is vast and massive. I visited Kanya Kumari last year, and the most choice oceanfront properties are occupied by Churches. All the way from Thiruvananthapuram to Kanya Kumari, in every town, on every street is a Church or Mosque. Churches in the UK and America have poured in millions of dollars into India for the purpose of conversion and construction of churches.

@@Jambudvipadialogues Very well put indeed. The British instigated such Brahmin hatred that Periyar had called for the genocide of "Aryan" Brahmins. The man was a hateful lunatic. Across South India, I really and truly cannot find a trace of difference in appearance between Brahmins and others.

@@OnlineMD Kannada and Telugu are grammatically closer to Tamil, Yes it has more loan words from Sanskrit. Surprisingly, the knowledge house of Sanskrit and Carnatic Sanskrit composition comes from Cauvery Delta , Thanjavur district of Tamilnadu. There is so much Sanskrit in Tamil that it is inseparable. Like I said earlier, common Tamil people are lovely people, you can see them in Besant Nagar during Velankanni Church feat, all people come worship there and head to Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple and then to Arupadai Veedu Murugan Temple, and smear vibhuti and spent time in Beach.
