A clip from the early in the movie "Mississippi Burning".
Gene Hackman plays an FBI agent from Mississippi who is assigned to a young supervisor played by William DeFoe, and there is a little friction between them. And big differences in their individual styles of work.

Amazing story, people in this country forget, they act like these things are ancient history, and yet there are so many people still alive who lived through this. Is it so hard to believe that a black man or woman who watched this unfold would be still hold residual resentment? And yet so many Americans want to write this period off, and are incensed to hear people talk of black Americans having reason to feel wronged.

My father grew up in the deep south. Left in the early 60s bc he didn’t jibe with their “values,” joined the AF, saw the world, etc.. After years all over the world and then in California, his accent smoothed out and was similar to Hackman’s. They did a good job with everything in this movie, including the nuances.

the only thing that bugs me about this movie, they are driving a 64 Chevrolet Impala 4 door hardtop. There is no way the FBI would have their agents in a car like that. it would be more of a plain-jane Bel-Air or Biscayne, a more austere model of car. Superb film and one of Hackman's greatest performances. He reminds me of Spencer Tracy in this role.
