Brilliant film and one which should be compulsory viewing in school curriculum areas to educate kids today about racism.

This movie extract is from Mississippi Burning, which was directed by Alan Parker. Mississippi Burning tells the story of what happened when several FBI agents went to Mississippi to investigate the disappearance of three boys. This extract describes the funeral of the black boy Chaney. Among the different scenes shown in the camera cutting, there are several shots that are particularly eye-catching. Instead of letting the characters occupy the main position in the picture, they use the sunset as the setting and fill most of the picture with scenery. The most typical example is the scene where the FBI drives a car to pick up Ward and Aderson. The sunset takes up 2/3 of the entire screen. Thick clouds blocked the sunlight and reflected the red sunset, making the whole scene dark and unclear. Alan Park uses sunset as the setting here, to show viewer the sad atmosphere and hinting that things will get worse. Because the sunset is the transition from day to night. Mississippi is about to enter the night with all its sins. This technique is also used earlier in the movie, where Alan Parker often uses night to show bad things will happen. The clouds blocking the sun indicates that Mississippi's justice, freedom, and equality are hindered by many barriers, such as local police taking the lead in murder, the KKK's wanton behavior, and the court's unfair ruling. At the same time, the monologue in the aural bridge here is "What if you look at the blood shed, it is red, it is like yours, it is just like yours." Alan Park uses the red sunset to unify the audience's vision and hearing, giving the stronger impact makes people realize more deeply that people of all skin colors have the same blood and live under the same sky, and makes people think about the irrationality of segregation. This actually has strong educational significance for the concept of equality for everyone in modern society.

Hommage pour Alan Parker. Un film déception, et une interprétation "hors normes", pratiquement disparue depuis 30 ans.
