I have listened to this tune so many times, but like most of Dylan's songs I hear something that I didn't hear or feel before...The master storyteller. 👏☝️🎶😎

' Only one thing I did wrong I stayed in Mississippi one day too long...' that's great, really the answer to all questions..Mr Dylan is not to top...I love that song..because if you think about your own life you don"t know at which point it doesen't go as you planned it.. you make plans and life gets in the way

Mississippi has always been my favourite (if it is possible to have a favourite Bob Dylan song). It uplifts and strengthens the heart, whilst softening and humbling it at the same time. No matter my mood, grabs the attention like no other song and lyrics. Like the best woman when she walks into a room, and all of a sudden, everything else becomes irrelevant. This song is riddled with love and strength; a constant in my life. His ballads are excellent, Workingman's Blues #2 is another - thank you R.Z. Many of his songs are about movement and changes, and yet at the heart of it all is the most steadfast man, and this makes me find strength and reconnect with myself - dig deep and be forgiving and accepting of nature and nature of others. The importance and weight of his compositions far outweigh the majority of even good songs. I don't usually like it when people compare artists and songs, but its hard not to with Bob Dylan. He is the best. Great man and gentleman.

In a catalogue replete with greatness, this song stands out as one of his greatest. Defines the term "Dylan-esque" in its lyrical power and the way it swerves from complete pessimism to resignation and even optimism. Proof that there was, is and will always be only one Bob.

Anyone notice that BobbyD is quite the maestro on that YellowStrat~when we saw him in Chicago that year I was shocked&happy to see him taking instrumentals b/c these are his songs/his mind/his interpretation/interpolation of his music. Very psychedelicized&beautiful blues, as ever. The line: "I Need Something Strong To Distract My Mind" is so amazing for those of us w/PTSD

He was , what, about 62 when he recorded this? I'm turning 65 on 12/01/12, and I feel like this cat is speaking about so much of the s**t (good and bad) that I've gone through over the years. This is all the richer for all the experiences I've had. World weary, "split to splinters," but still a light and free heart" and hope for the future. Fabulous lines, one after another after another........... This song is one fabulous "chronicle" in itself.

For me this a favorite , as well as Every Grain of Sand , Red River Girl , Not Dark Yet and only about 500 more songs. But who's counting? There is no one else a better songwriter than Bob Dylan . If only the world would realize this . Maybe , just maybe , the power hunger mongrels would stop in mid step from their Hellbent ideas that only lead to mass destruction . For me and my Christian Faith I believe Bob Dylan is a man of the Ages . Peter behind my Judy .

Give the dude a break, he is pushing 70, In my humble opinion he is first and foremost a poet, he is then a folk musician, he is then a singer. Put bluntly Bob can't sing... pitch perfect... but NOBODY can sing his stuff anywhere close to his versions. If you don't like it then go listen to some Sony music controlled garbage they are pumping out these days, no apprenticeship, no originality, no soul, so nothing that stirs the emotions. Still think PGABTK is is greatest work.

We're showing just how Dylan crazy we are right here, but I totally agree. It's lost that deep gravel sound but now it's just a sort of growl. BUT f you compare his never-ending-tour performances and the White House performance from 2009, there's a HUGE difference. His voice is softer and fuller and more melodic than usual. Who knows, maybe he's got another "voice" in him. He's used so many! Guess we'll find out on the next album.
@zimmermanlive11 жыл бұрын
Wow. That's a significant difference. Why the hell would he sing any other way? Since you're a fellow Dylan-phile, what do you hope for in the next album? I really hope he goes with Danny Lanois as a producer to get a better sound than was on tempest OR just sticks with minimal instrumentation. Honestly, I'd just prefer a full-on acoustic album. Sorta like World Gone Wrong, but to record his own songs that have never been done acoustically. It's just wishful thinking, but I'd love it.
