This tune is an original arrangement of North Mississippi Fife & Drum music for the Bateria Saideira by artistic director Brian Potts, that blends the powerful and dynamic sound of 40 Samba percussionists with the sultry vocals and guitar of Alejandro Elizondo's rendition of Otha Turner's "Glory Glory, Hallelujah" and "My Babe", paying homage to Otha Turner, Shardé Thomas-and also the North Mississippi Fife & Drum and Brazilian Banda de Pífano traditions.
These 2 rhythms are in essence the reclaiming of joy, from instruments that became used in the military for colonization, back into joyful music and celebration for the African descendants of those who carried the music across the transatlantic trade of enslaved Africans.
