No better office than a wheelhouse! Always a room with a view.

I worked on a supply boat for Seahorse Inc. back in the mid 80's just out of school for a couple of years. My cousin got me on, he was a chief engineer at the time. LOVED IT.....we were leased on to Shell at the time and worked out of Morgan City and Venice, typically going out the mouth of the river or North Pass to a few rigs. I tell people even today that if i had not been color blind I would still likly be doing it to this day. This dry dock video brings back some good memories.... we were in dry dock one time in Algiers when New Orleans had the Worlds Fair. We stood on the back deck and watched the Space Shuttle circle New Orleans before it landed to be bought up the Intercostal. GOOD TIMES

Absolutely beautiful scenery out there! The boats the barges and the sun setting doesn't get any better than that. When you had video panned to the right the scenery would make a great wall picture! Thanks Capt Kyle for sharing such beauty

Would be awesome to see how the boat gets into or out of the dry dock.

Pretty simple. Drive on and pump water out, raising it. Fairly straightforward and quick

When I was working for the Louisiana Hwy Dept back in the early '70s there was no bridge at Luling, they only had a ferry with two huge low RPM (600 PRM MAX) White-Worthington Diesels! Got to ride in the wheelhouse every time we crossed because I was an LA Hwy Dept employee. Took almost 20 to 30 minutes to cross the mighty Missisip fully loaded! Great shots Capt! Keep'em Coming!

Those wheels and bottom are huge. All these years when seeing them alongside the ships they always seem small from the bank of the river.

How often are propellers reworked/replaced to keep them in balance?
@marktwained
@marktwained Жыл бұрын
As needed. I’ve known boats go years, and the possibility of damaging one the day after being newly replaced always exists. Where the boat runs, and amounts of drift are factors.

Do hitting logs mess things up much?
@marktwained
@marktwained Жыл бұрын
Depends on size of log. Usually chops them up unless it’s huge.

Kyle consider investing in a gimbal so the shaking and focus is not so distracting. I hate when the beautiful sunsets are just coming into focus as you move on.

I’ve invested in two. Spent a bit on the DJI. It’s just extra travel stuff that is low on priority list. They were more trouble than worth. Those metrics changed, so…. 🤷🏼‍♂️

What about shore power when you're in dry dock and on the boat? Any way to keep the power on?
@marktwained
@marktwained Жыл бұрын
Yes, fully shore powered while dry docked. 👍🏻

How do you get the tug on the dry dock
@scottfw7169
@scottfw7169 Жыл бұрын
Looks like one of the floating drydocks which can take on water ballast to submerge the dock deck then pump that water back out to raise deck above water.

If you were inclined, couldn't you livestream anytime you wanted? Just set the camera up in the wheelhouse on a tripod with it pointed out the front glass?
@marktwained
@marktwained Жыл бұрын
If I wanted to, yes. Cell signal would be limiting factor. Definitely something doable. I’m not interested, at this time. I post everything that I want, and quite often contemplate deleting channel. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Minor repairs on one of the propellers. We can run with it, just not very efficiently.

You shake too much. Invest in a Tri-pod. You can change the setting to get rid of shakes.
@marktwained
@marktwained Жыл бұрын
Have tripod gimble in hand. As I mentioned in livestream the setting s don’t allow anti shake with livestream. It works differently processing image. I’m fully aware of capabilities of my equipment.
