The crabs you saw are fresh water crabs. Plenty of those all around Zimbabwe. You'll find them near or around water bodies.

You should know your boundaries and remain respectful. What if that person is a domestic abuse survivor who wants to live a quiet life and you just expose it to the world to see. Just because it's a village it doesn't give you the right to enter people's homes, would you do that in the city or in Uganda.
