Just bought me a Kaweco Brass Sport thanks to you and AventureDenali. It has a medium nib as well. I have it inked up with Diamine Sherwood Green! Great video! 😁

Sherwood Green was my first non blue / black ink. Absolutely love it!!!!!

Well this is crazy Katie as I’ve just done exactly the same 👍🏻 I got mine today after procrastinating for ages and out of 5 different Diamine ink colour cartridges, I chose Sherwood Green. Brilliant. I’ve also watched Alicia’s video so many times and am glad I finally went with the Brass Sport. Although I played it safe and got medium nib. Enjoy! 🙂👍🏻

Hi, I bought a sailor pro gear slim after hearing rave reviews, and had a similar experience in terms of feeling slightly underwhelmed. Found switching out for a wetter ink made a huge difference to the writing experience - good luck!

on the loose thread, loctite 222 (purple, don't go stronger) might help. I've used 242 on a different pen end cap and it helped too much (or I put on too much). applied at a very small amount might be fine. I only mention it because it seems easier to find locally.

Thanks for the suggestion, that worked for me.

I have this pen and I have extra large hands (ie I wear XL gloves) this pen is great for quick notes and jotting things down, it's not great for any sort of long term use though. That said I do love this pen and the brand in general. Great video!

The brass one patina's beautifully on the Kaweco, that looks so nice. I think I'm gonna get this one!

The sailor ink is definitely dryer. And because of the finer Japanese lines, you’ll see the ink and wetness a lot less. But I believe the ink has a large part in this case. Try switching the ink might help you enjoy the pen more so 😊 thanks for the video! Good luck

I refill ink cartridges for pens all the time to allow for more ink capacity. Pilot has some terrible converters so I do that for my pilots all the time. The Sailor PGS pens are light but when inked they have a nice balance. These minis don’t take any converter but reusing cartridges is awesome. I sometimes don’t even use the cartridge and just clean it out and refill it immediately. Sailor has a lot of nib sizes in their other pens including the PGS even zoom and music. Love sailor pens. Changing up your ink might make you like the Sailor more. Gold nibs are softer so I suspect part of the problem is the ink/nib combo. I’m not a fan of the Kaweco sport personally. I sold mine. I love my TWSBI minis and I plan to get a Sailor too.

As far as the cap unscrewing, you could get some Loktight (sp?) and put a small drop in the threads. Just make certain it's not the red stuff as you'll never get the cap off, as it's permanent. (I think they have 3 types of the stuff (at auto parts stores) with the blue being the weakest, allowing to still unscrew the cap. Just ask the person at the counter.😊)

To keep the barrel closed to the grip - instead of just screwing it up and then trying to force it closed by twisting, give this a try - just before the ends close up on the threads, very quickly spin each half so you’re like spinning it closed and not just screwing it closed. This causes stiction and the two halves will stay together better. So like a rapid twist to lock them together, not a slow twist. 👍🏻 If it’s working, you’ll feel the instant difference when you try to open it up after.

Thank you for the helpful review, Kristina! I got the Kaweco Brass Sport based on Alicia's recommendation too. LOVE that pen! I was eyeing the Sailor but now I think I'll pass. I love a smooth writer.

I have these two pens that I am enjoying one more than the other (I certainly need to look for other nib options for the sailor mini ). I have also the sailor in the bigger size and the nub is certainly not like the minis in writing experience. It isn’t scratchy like the minis ... the regular size writes smooth which is more pleasant for me.

Great review! I have the kaweco steel Sport and love it. I’ve been looking at this Sailor mini which is so adorable but hesitating b/c as you said 1 nib size, and also no converter available so I’d have to use the Sailor cartridges or empty and refill Sailor cartridges. Many things to think about :)

I have small hands too. I was surprised that my Sailor 1911s felt too small for me. I have a choke hold when i write.

This pen is stunning. Which model it is and where did you get the metal clip?

I felt the same way about a Sailor Pro Gear in Broad that I purchased. The hardness, feedback and fine line (even in a broad!) were just not for me. I love my Kawecos and Pelikans though!

Hi, I Have a Pelikan Fountain Pen and am trying to figure out what series it belongs to. I'd love to talk to you more about this if possible.

I own pens that cost a hundred and fifty times what the Brass Sport cost, but I use the Brass Sport just as often, and maybe more often. I think it's a spectacular pen. First, I love soft nibs, but a nib should NEVER, EVER be rough ir scratchy, regardless of whether it's hard or soft. A hard nib should be just as polished, just as slick, as a soft nib. Often more so. Flexibility has nothing to do with roughness. If the nib on your Brass Sport is rough or scratchy, you either need a new nib, or you need to use some micromesh and polish the one that's one it. I have a medium nib on my Brass Sport, and it's as smooth as butter on glass, even on cheap paper. Anyway, the threads aren't on the grip section so being a screw cap should not cause the grip section to loosen. It loosens because it's slick metal on slick metal and has to be tight, or you have to put something on the threads to help keep it tight. I haven't tried it but I've heard of putting a little wax on the threads. Have no clue how well it works. There are other things to use, but I think they keep things much too tight.

Sorry to hear your disappointment in the Sailor. I'm a big fan of 'em. To each her own, I guess.

Oddly, the smell is from us, not the metal. Metal doesn't really have a smell, but the oils in our hand reacts to the metal, giving it a smell. We make the metal smelly by putting our oils on it. If you thoroughly clean metal and try to smell it, you will smell nothing until you touch it.

Recently, somehow, these sailor PGS minis convinced me to buy an “expensive” (read: more than $20 fountain pen. 😂 laughing because I see that even $180 Mini is a “Cheap”fountain pen.) I appreciated this review, but I’m kind of amazed because your thumbnail image “fooled me again”. You see, for months I saw someone using or keeping the Sailor Mini during IG stories videos, and I thought, “it’s so gorgeous, it’s too gorgeous; I want it no matter what!!!” I saw it in a lot of lights or filters, and decided it was “blush” color. “Even though sometimes it looks darker than others, I looked around online and decided it was in Blush. I felt I liked Blush and “Rose Taupe”, but which one MORE??? How to choose when you can’t shop in person. Months later I have learned two things: 1. That person’s pen I was admiring was “Rose Taupe”! 2. Blush/Rose Taupe Chameleon Effect can still fool me! And I OWN Rose Taupe. The thumbnail of your video here absolutely had me thinking “ah, it’s a Blush one, actually!” But as soon as the video rolls, I know it’s Rose taupe. I saw this video first 1 week-10 days ago; and now I actually got a Blush mini, too-and came back to check the thumbnail of this video and I STILL think on the screen it looks like “probably blush” 😅🤣🥲. So, I think they are both great, but similar colors. If anyone is looking at choosing and likes both; just choose “dark rosy/lilac/taupe nude” or “light” of same.

This Sailor could also be a Waterman, or a Cross, or - in black - even a Mini-Montblanc, or any China clone. Sailor is a torpedo with a classic belly bandage and back clip: Thousands of fountain pens look alike either way: Without a brand name, they are virtually unidentifiable; like modern cars. This Kaweco on the other hand is no beauty at all; it combines an octagon with a round cylinder in unbalanced proportions, actually an aesthetic disaster. Strangely enough, many fountain pen fans think it's great. So do I.
