You know what is so irritating abut this story? The fact that a university will go through all that trouble for a student who chose to go to a party and get intoxicated, but will cover up or dismiss any mentions of a sexual assault or rape. {not specifically talking about this school, but universities in general} Like what school cares more about a student getting wasted rather then the physical + mental health of a student?

Real talk adult advice here: if someone who isn't a cop asks for your name and info and you did nothing wrong and have no further information that will benefit the situation, just say "no thanks I don't want to be implicated in this situation I had nothing to do with for this girl who is a stranger, she's here with you now and safe so I'm going to go" then leave. They have zero right to keep you there even if you were a student.

Also, ask WHY when she wanted your names. It's a bad precedent to set for a college to punish people who act as DD's for intoxicated students. Drinking over 21 isn't illegal and this kind of policy will lead to people abandoning drunk friends, and I don't have to tell you the horrific atrocities to come from that.

You're not wrong about what you stated but the thing is that the dorms are usually for the first years. So they are 18-21. You will RARELY ever talk to someone who is over 21 in the dorms. Especially this year that her university is only allowing first years to stay in the dorms. So that's the only problem with the situation. The girl was most likely a minor.

actually in state schools you are required to have ID and present it if requested. Secondly if she has simply said, We don't know this girl we were at a party and were asked to take her home because she was drunk nothing would have happened to them. However they continuously tried to bypass the dorm staff and get the girl to her room making it look very suspicious. I work in a dorm I've had countless people try to tell me their drunk friends were" fine" meanwhile they literally could not stand on their own and when leaned against a wall fell down. At this level of intoxication they are at risk of alcohol poisoning. Would you rather let he girl go to bed and possibly choke on her own vomit? And the amount of emts and police that showed is obviously a huuuugeee exaggeration by her. even if the police, fire department, and ambulance came it would be at most 6 maybe 7 people not 15.

@Fainora I have to agree with you. The University has to take this seriously for liability reasons. If they just go by the "oh our friend is fine!" claims and not take further action, there could be major issues. In addition, the fact of the matter is that she was trespassing. If she wasn't a student at the school and was wandering around inside the dorms, that's a major issue. Yes, she was doing something honorable, but the school also has to protect its students and maintain security.

Was going to say it, but Lili did. A lot of the time, it's the freshman/sophmore dorms. They are 18-20, which means they are consuming alcohol illegally. Not a huge shock as most kids do, but if something were to happen as a result of their intoxication (alcohol poisoning, car accident) the school would likely be implicated. That's why they try to discourage it with punishment which is counter productive because it makes people second guess whether they even want to help by being a DD or helping someone who is severely intoxicated. Remi did the right thing by bringing her home and helping her into the building, but she should have left right there when the girl was put down on the couch, before public service arrived. She could no longer provide any help at that point and the girl was in the hands of someone who could. Your duty is over then.

What's disheartening if that the university was so quick to ban somebody who was obviously compassionate enough to help a person in need. Not many people would be willing to take somebody who was that drunk in their car, or stay with them until they were sure they were safe. the school should be thankful! maybe you saved that girl's life! I mean, what are the odds that a random drunk girl gets put in YOUR path. someone as kind as you with good intentions. a lot of people could have taken advantage of the situation, but she was put in your path to take her home. As a former housing employee that's proper protocol for housing. There have been incidences where student have died due to alcohol and they have to be strict. Students sign that they wont consume alcohol or be intoxicated on housing property.
