I feel like people are constantly telling me my a-levels are hard (biology, chemistry, maths and politics) and everyone is constantly moaning about how difficult a-levels are. It seems to be one of the main topics everyone is talking about and it's so draining being in consistent negativity and interacted with people who keep saying pessimistic things. But then I don't want to be that one person that's like 'oh yeah, I'm finding maths really interesting and I quite like algebra so this isn't too difficult' so instead I'm always like 'omg standard deviation? what does that even MEAN!' It's like when people constantly say bad things, they kind of just become embedded in your brain? and it's hard to escape.
@fajrbalushi3 жыл бұрын
omg lad runn, but honestly i feel you im actually doing a similar combo of a levels (bio,chem,math) and lord i nearly ran away from a levels and did a different easier program because of what people were saying, i just started recently so i still dont know if it was the right decision or not but i just decided to feel confident and unbothered with what people say and just assume that its not applicable to me cuz im some sort of genius, which just better than confirming to urself that its so unimaginably hard. i would say get ur inspo from youtubers and all those people who have done so well just to cancel out the negative things ur told and see how its very possible to do well and get ur desired grades

same! everyone constantly says negative things! I'm taking fine art, biology, and later modern history and they're all hard in their respective ways, but i find that when someone asks me how I'm getting on I just say "I'm really enjoying my subjects!" i find that it edges on the person I'm talking to to say something positive about their studies, and its almost like a self fulfilling prophecy - making myself enjoy my subjects even though some of the content is extremely tricky and tiring. :)

I start year 12 next year so this was really helpful.I think not comparing your results to other people is really good advice- I started doing my GCSEs in year 9 so I’ve already received 5 of my GCSEs and last year I didn’t do as well, I think first because we were constantly in and out of the class room and so it was just really stressful and distracting which then caused my grades to suffer. I’m also an over thinker sometimes so when completing lessons without just doing what I could do in the the normal hour I would spend hours trying to finish a lesson firstly because I don’t like to leave things unfinished and secondly I’m a slow writer and typer especially when it comes to essays and because it’s not pen to paper if I didn’t like what I wrote I could easily get rid of it and so I would just procrastinate and then when I got frustrated I would leave it then move on and then come back to it. I guess the moral of the story was that it was just a very long unproductive year and a bit for we which I wish I could of handled better but I didn’t and now it stresses me because I feel like I might not get into the 6th forms I really want to go to because of the subject I failed and the one I came close to failing.
@naturalbby17223 жыл бұрын
I can't believe I'm almost finished my first term of sixth form! It has gone by so quickly but there has been many ups and downs! I'm taking Biology, Chemistry and Maths! I compared my GCSE and first assessments grades with so many people in my class and I would let them get to me because I feel like they're smarter. But I promise you, comparing yourself to other people will not make things better. You are doing A-levels for you not them! You are tryna get good grades FOR YOU! Also, dont let anyone even your friends convince you to drop your subject because theirs is more enjoyable or they feel like your subjects are too difficult! Push hard!

This initial section means a lot, I of course need to realise that getting a 7 for physics means I do need to thoroughly go back over stuff and put in a lot of effort. But I've heard too many people saying how people getting a 7 in their GCSE never get A/A* for their A-levels. Though it is a real statistic, it completely ignores the mentality of the students. Not every student is the same and I truly believe that if I work hard I can do well.

In year 10 make sure you look over anything you don’t understand when your at home. For revision- start revising near Christmas in year 11 (practice exam questions is the best form of revision). I did this and got 8 grade 9s and a grade 8 :) Most importantly: don’t overwork yourself in year 10 as it is the last “fun” school year!
@mattyisherwood39783 жыл бұрын
@@cOrAL_Grimes I do lots of revision and each day I read over the subjects I struggle with which are chemistry and biology mainly and occasionally computer science. This is me looking at the lesson we had after it and reflecting. 8 grade 9s and a grade 8 is amazing - not sure I can reach that but I am in top sets and am willing to put the work in so hopefully will get there. I really appreciate a response. Do I need to do anything before Christmas in y11 aside from topic tests or routine tests we may have? I love school so I will still really enjoy y11. :)

@@mattyisherwood3978 If you're doing revision everyday you going the right direction! Always remember though, it's not about revising 7 hours a day, it's about revising efficiently, finding a revision method which benefits you the best is extremely important, GCSE's (especially science exams) are really about how much information you can regurgitate during you exam, efficient revision will help you retain a lot more information than longer inefficient revision sessions. @fat-freeoliveoil65533 жыл бұрын
I'm not trying to put anyone down but you shouldn't be taking your A-levels so seriously. A-levels have one purpose: to get you into your desired degree course. As long as you have a general idea on what grades you need for the degree courses you want to do, then you don't need to aim any higher than that. I'm also going to give some advice for people taking somewhat practical courses, like computer science or engineering. It is FAR more useful to spend less time trying to get perfect results and spend that time doing your own personal projects relating to your course instead. It will really help you in university and you get to understand how your potential career path works in the real world. You don't understand how many students were in my computer science course that knew absolutely nothing of programming. By programming, I don't just mean 'code do something'. I mean understanding the concepts of programming, efficiency, resource management, conventions, memory sizes, etc.
