WHY DO LDS REJECT GOD OF BIBLE & BELIEVE IN FALSE GOD OF Joseph Smith? ISN'T YOUR ETERNITY WORTH EXAMINING THE TRUTH? NO truth: Book of Abraham published with 3 facsimiles taken from an ancient papyrus. The book is a funerary papyrus showing scenes from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. In Facsimiles Nos. 1 & 3, Smith misidentifies everything depicted. "LDS and non-LDS Egyptologists agree that the characters on the fragments do not match the translation given in the book of Abraham" Quote from LDS OFFICIAL WEB PAGE NO trace of the “Two million Jaredites slain” (Ether 15:2), with iron, brass, breast-plates, shields, and armor. It would be impossible for these millions of dead warriors in armor to leave no trace. NO trace of the great city Zarahemla- it would be impossible for a city the size of Zarahemla (Alma 5:2; D&C 125:3) to leave no trace. NO trace of Jewish dna found in any Indian burial ground anywhere in the Americas from time period of BOM. Thomas W. Murphy, (Mormon scholar, DNA researcher):“We are in a dilemma, the genetic evidence shows that American Indians are not Hebrews, they are not Israelites. The Book of Mormon is not true.” John Whitmer Historical Association Journal 2005 NO temple like Solomon's described in 2 Nephi 5:16 has ever been found yet biblical temple is easily seen in Jerusalem. If the temple Nephi describes ever existed it could not disappear. NO Nephite "reformed Egyptian" writings ever found anywhere as it is not a real language anywhere in the world. NO cities mentioned in the BOM have ever been located (none of 38) anywhere. It would be impossible for them to disappear unless they never existed. NO evidence: "The whole land was covered with buildings, and the people were as numerous, as it were the sand of the sea." Yet not one ever located. (Mormon 1:7) IMPOSSIBLE for highly advanced civilizations (Jaredites, Nephites) & MILLIONS of people to have vanished. The BOM speaks of sheep, swine, silk, wool clothing & elephants existing in the Americas when they did not. 1 Ne.13:7; Alma 4:6; Ether 9:17 and 10:24 These were brought to America centuries later by Europeans. NO wheat, no goats, no metal smelting furnaces, no metal armor, no steel swords, no cattle, no chariot parts, no brass (Mosiah 8:10) no evidence of the listed Kings in BOM, no Jewish relics or Jewish Temples from supposed Jews, no metal plates like Nephites supposedly used, no middle eastern seeds growing, "which were brought from the land of Jerusalem ... and grew exceedingly" 1 Nephi 18:24 There is NO archaeological, anthropological, topological, linguistic, botanical or dna evidence to support the Book of Mormon. LDS anthropologist Dee Green: “The first myth we need to eliminate is that BOM archaeology exists” conceding 20 years of research “left us empty-handed” (Green 1969 p. 77) CAN WE IGNORE THE LACK OF EVIDENCE FOR THE THE BOOK OF MORMON AND JUST TRUST OUR HEARTS AS TO THE TRUTH OF IT EVEN THOUGH IT CONFLICTS WITH THE BIBLE? NO! D&C Section 9:8-9 - tell us that if something is true it will make our "bosom burn" and we will FEEL that it is right. Maroni 10:4 says: "he will manifest the truth of it unto you" The Bible warns us against this subjective type of truth test. Why? Because we have a sinful nature that can be deceived. Proverbs 28:26 "He that trusts in his own (bosom) heart is a FOOL." The Scriptures, however, are infallible and can never be wrong (John 17:17; Psalm 119:128; 33:4; 19:8; Romans 3:4). This is why the Bible frequently urges us to study and meditate on God's word. 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV "STUDY ... rightly dividing the word of TRUTH." Acts 17:11 "EXAMINE THE SCRIPTURES to see if what said is TRUE". 1John 4:1 says: "BELIEVE NOT EVERY SPIRIT, ... because MANY FALSE PROPHETS have gone out into the world." Mormonism claims the bible was corrupted to justify Joseph Smith's changing of the biblical, eternal God into an evolving, created god, who is not all powerful and is one of an endless number of gods . However, this is a PROVABLY FALSE claim. The Claim: In the BOM, the prophet Nephi has a vision the Bible was corrupted and "plain and precious parts" were removed after the 12 apostles and after the formation of the “great and abominable church” (1 Nephi 13:26-29). Most Mormons believe this is the Catholic Church formed in the 4th century. Nephi claims this church was founded by the Devil (1 Nephi 14:3). So let’s objectively examine the Bible & BOM. BIBLE: The Dead Sea Scrolls have been dated to as early as 350 BC. One is the Great Isaiah Scroll, which is the oldest known copy of the Book of Isaiah dated to 180 BC. Do ANY ancient scrolls show Smith's "uncorrupted" version of scripture? NO! Yet they would if the scripture was later corrupted after the 12 apostles died as Smith and Nephi said. Also, if they had been corrupted, Jesus would have corrected scripture instead of affirming it! Jesus sd:“ I told you EVERYTHING written about me in the Law of Moses, the Books of the Prophets, and in the Psalms had to happen.” (Luke 24:44-46) Scripture is the same today as it was 2,100+ years ago with only minor spelling and punctuation differences. Joseph Smith was wrong. These scrolls pre-dated Catholics, and are Jewish scrolls and the BOM says the Jews had the Scriptures in their "purity". 1Nephi 13:25 LDS Apologist Wayne Ham admitted the Isaiah scroll does not support the the BOM. Apologist Dr. Sidney B. Sperry, of BYU, said the Dead Sea Scrolls do not help the case for the BOM. BYU Professor Joseph F. McConkie: "Rather than Joseph Smith as Found in Ancient Manuscripts, it ought be Joseph Smith as Lost in Ancient Manuscripts.” (Religious Studies Center, 1984) IS THE GOD OF THE BOOK OF MORMON THE SAME ONE AS IN THE BIBLE? NO! In the LDS Church’s 147th Conf., Gen Authority Bernard P. Brockbank said: the Christ followed by Mormons is NOT THE CHRIST followed by traditional Christianity. (Ensign, May 1977 p. 26) "Before me NO god was formed, nor shall there be ANY after me.” (Isaiah 43:10) If Mormonism is true, then God could not make this claim, for he was just a man at one point; nor could he claim that no gods would come after him, for that is the goal of LDS members. Like Joseph Smith, this was the goal of Satan, to be like God and have worshipers. "I will exalt my throne above the stars of God ... I will be like the Most High”’ (Isaiah 14:12-14) The new testament has not been corrupted either. See the book of John. Smith changed it to make Jesus a created being. Research a 1900 year old papyri known as the Bodmer Papyri of the book of John. (written 150 AD, around the Apostle John's time) John 1:1 "In the BEGINNING was the WORD and the WORD was WITH God and the WORD WAS God." ΕΝ ΑΡΧΗ ΗΝ Ο ΛΟΓΟΣ ΚΑΙ Ο ΛΟΓΟΣ ΗΝ ΠΡΟΣ ΤΟΝ ΘΕΟΝ ΚΑΙ ΘΕΟΣ ΗΝ Ο ΛΟΓΟΣ (look up this ancient Greek yourself on google) John 1:1 Joseph Smith translation: "In the beginning was the GOSPEL preached through the Son. And the GOSPEL was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the Son was with God, and the Son was of God." Smith's Jesus is no longer God in the flesh but the biblical Jesus is: "God was manifest in the flesh" 1Tim. 3:16 KJV There are 4,000 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament. Some go back to 350 AD and NONE support Joseph Smith's claims that the bible of today has been corrupted. Papyrus fragments exist of the New Testament dated to 175 AD and show that the new testament has NOT been "corrupted". (New Testament Docs: Are They Reliable? Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1967 pp. 15-17) The manuscript and archeological evidence for the BIBLE is the GREATEST in antiquity. I pray you know the true Jesus and not Joseph Smith's exalted man from another planet who is not eternal, not all powerful, not perfect but evolving, and was polygamous. God is much greater than the humanoid of Mormonism and NOT just ONE OF AN ENDLESS NUMBER OF EVOLVING GODS. Jesus said ALL scripture will NOT fade away but "many wolves in sheep's clothing" will come trying to add to the word. Mathew 7:15 Joseph Smith changed Jesus, the Father and taught you can become a GOD. It hurts my heart to see Mormons fall for the lie that we can become God when there is only one eternal God found in the bible. "The only men who become Gods, even the sons of Gods are those that enter into polygamy." (Brigham Young) Journal of Discourses 11 p.269 Apostle Orson Pratt, in The Seer, page 172, “the great Messiah who was the founder of the Christian religion was a Polygamist…the Messiah chose to take upon himself his seed; and by marrying many wives, … The son followed the example of his Father" God gave us critical thinking & logical reasoning for a reason, which is why he does tell us to EXAMINE and TEST what we are being taught for TRUTH. The bible withstands the truth test. Joseph Smith's version fails the truth test. It's your eternity, study it for yourself. God bless.

These "mistakes" are evidence of an oral dictation style, not of writing on plates. Writing on plates would have included drafting and rewriting first on paper. And if any mistakes made it to the plates, they would have been scratched out (like we do now with mistakes in pen). For a discussion about how these passages show an oral dictation style, skip to 1:52:52 in this Mormon Stories interview (or watch the whole thing): kzbin.infoXOBgZgbm584?si=RRqoGcGuzuaPemUO

Jacob 4:1 says differently. Having likely never actually written on plates, you have no basis for saying it WOULD HAVE included anything. Or that mistakes WOULD HAVE been scratched out. That’s your theory influenced by your disbelief that any of it is real-so there MUST be another answer. And as I’ve pointed out to other commenters, this theory completely disregards the vastly different rates of corrections between authors. Jacob 4:1 and the different rates actually supports multiple authors FAR more than your theory. It seems pretty obvious logic to me. Unless you completely throw out the possibility that it’s actually what it says it is. Which is a very illogical place to start if you are actually seeking truth!

@@chadwright1006 Jacob 4:1 illustrates my point exactly. Jacob claims to be writing only an abbreviated account, meaning he has drafted and rewritten his account many times to boil it down to just a few words. All this because it's easier for him to write several drafts elsewhere and then take the time to engrave only the final product on the plates. Yet that's not what we find in the BoM. We find a verbose account with repetitions, corrections and stream of consciousness structure. Did you watch the video? I'd love to hear your answer to the evidence for oral dictation. For example, do you believe in a tight or a loose translation method?

@@chadwright1006I'd like to understand the thinking behind your assumption that they are engraving errors. There are accounts that the unsealed part that was translated came from very few plates, therefore one little symbol contained several paragraphs worth of information. Did moroni not make the symbol long enough or missed a point or line and that accounts for the error?

It seems to me that these mistakes could also be explained by someone dictating to a scribe and realizing the mistake continued on making corrections on the fly.
@chadwright1006
@chadwright1006 Жыл бұрын
That’s not a bad assumption. But then why at such different rates for each author? Why only word usage mistakes, but then somehow he’s able to keep all the 600+ geographic references in the book consistent? What you propose doesn’t take even just these 2 examples into account. And there are hundreds more.

Thank you for giving my comment consideration. While I don't agree with your conclusions, I appreciate your passion and willingness to share and your time to respond. Since I don't have the data about the different rates of errors by author, I would have a difficult time offering an explanation. I did wonder about the writings attributed to Jesus. I believe this was from the second part of the video. Would those have come from the passages copied nearly verbatim from the KJV of the Bible that Joseph Smith had access to? Those passages being anachronistic by themselves with the translation errors that the Nephites would not have had in the supposed plates procured from Laben or from the New Testament that the Nephites would also not have had including the passages in Mark's gospel that scholars believe to have been added later by scribes because they don't show up in the earliest manuscripts? The translation that matches so closely when one supposedly would have come from an oral tradition in Aramaic translated and written in Greek and then from Greek to English and the other from "Reformed Egyptian" to English. It's just too coincidental for me to be believed. Especially when on the one hand the mistakes prove the truth. What about the differences that would be expected that aren't there? Does that also prove the truth? In that case what would prove that it isn't true?

Why would a literate man need a scribe to write a fictional story for him? Scribes are used when someone is translating, whether it be the contents of a meeting, or the conversation among people of different languages. Scribes make records by translating spoken words into written. Joseph could have written the words himself if it was fake, but he needed Oliver because he could not translate and write at the same time.

Note that Jospeh Smith did not write the Book of Mormon, he dictated it. The extant Original Manuscript and the Printer's Manuscript do not show signs of significant rewriting, they and print editions (1830, 1837, 1840, 1879, 1920, and 1987) show minor editing (especially grammatical editing) occurred. The "mistakes" are more easily explained (Occam's razor) as remnants of the dictation process.
@chadwright1006
@chadwright1006 Жыл бұрын
Not even close. Study them as I have for the last decade and that becomes very obvious. Anyone who has spent years reading and hearing the writing style of the Book of Mormon can tell you that Mormon has a VASTLY different sound and style than Jacob does. This is exactly my point in the video: The distribution of corrections is dramatically different from author to author. When you plug THAT into the equation, Occam's Razor tilts heavily toward several authors. It just can't be explained otherwise if you include ALL the data.

It’s funny to me how people accept the numerous mistakes and inconsistencies in the Bible but scoff at anything similar in the Book of Mormon. Slightly different accounts and timelines between two authors of scripture is to be expected by a book written and translated by humans, even if they’re inspired by god. The men that wrote these scriptures weren’t language scholars with digital records. They were ordinary men, fisherman, farmers, military generals, etc. Good video 👍🏻

Sir, could you pls check Alma 15:16-18? The text started with two subjects but ended up completing the sentence with only one subject, and then it inserted a long parenthetical statement before concluding the original context. Since English is my second language, it was difficult for me to understand this type of sentence structure. However, I realized that this way of speaking is actually similar to my own style, which now helped me understand it better. There are quite a few people who speak this way when storytelling. So, I think this kind of 'error' may also proves the authenticity of BoM. Could you pls let me know if my argument is proper?

I thoroughly appreciate and enjoy your content! The challenge of expressing thoughts in a language like reformed Egyptian, especially without the use of Hebrew, likely contributed to certain weaknesses observed in their writings. It's intriguing to ponder the implications of translating the Bible from Hebrew, potentially resulting in the loss of intricate numerology and character symbolism. This perspective sheds light on why some might perceive the translated Bible as "corrupted," as it navigates the challenge of preserving the richness inherent in the original language. I look forward to more enlightening videos from you! Your thoughtful analyses bring a unique and valuable perspective to the discussion.

Personally I prefer a imperfect book, written by imperfect people, with a God that desires to perfect all of his creations, over a inerrant book, written in univocality in all thing, where every single word of it is inspired by a God that does not desire or accomplish his desire to bring about salvation to all people equally . The moment we seek for that one, inerrant truth of things by admitting that there will always be mistakes, errors and inconsistencies from the sources we seek it from, is the moment we open up for new and greter possibilties to embrace truth, whereever and however it may come to us, and also, witih that, be humble enought to acknowledge that the only "good fruit of discernment" is the amount of charity it brings forth within us, for does it not say thast those that know God, know him because they love, now understanding Gods true nature and idendity (see 1 John).. So, great video :)

God bless.

Im confused. I was taught that Joseph translated the book of mormon, stating that it was reformed egyptian? Or was that the pearl of great price? No one could interpret egyptian at the time, Joseph knew someone who knew Hebrew could prove him a liar so he just invented "reformed egyptian ". Notice also that when Martin Harris went with Charles anton, he said there were chaldiac, assyrian, and Arabic characters in the document he read, how in the world are those languages in plates supposedly written in 600 bc?

@@dr33776 ok valid point. But you also said there were characters in there that predated Egyptian empire? So how could one be able to know what Assyrian looks like but not have any understanding of Egyptian hyrogliphs? One culture predates the other by how many years? A thousand or so? But yes, Joseph's whole argument was that it was reformed Egyptian which makes no sense. At the time there would have been ancient Hebrew scholars who could translate ancient text. Thats why Joseph had to make up one. He was the Tolkein of the 19th century

@christopherhardy8937 the key is that the assyrian statement comes from Joseph, Martin harris had already been excommunicated so he had no way of objecting to the story Joseph told, Charles anton also contradicted what Joseph said but we never hear of that in church.

Reformed Egyptian was used when writing on the plates from which the Book of Mormon was translated as a sort of shorthand so that the difficult process of engraving on plates would not take so long, and so that more information could be condensed more easily. Thanks for your question!

The correction in Alma with “Weapons of peace, or rather weapons of war _for_ peace”, I’ve always viewed that as a “typo” that can’t be erased, because you’re writing it on plates of gold, you can’t really erase it. So Alma, or whoever was recording the record, probably realized his mistake after he wrote it down.

@fidgetthecrazy that's a question for Joseph Smith. Thats how all his ancient translations worked. Are you familiar with the Kinderhook plates? He translated a entire paragraph from a boat looking symbol. Have you looked at the GAEL document? A single papyrus symbol translated into several verses in the book of abraham. An error in the plates is the least likely thing that happened. Everything points to a dictation error.

So if I understand you right, there are some chronolocal or thematic errors proving how it was different authors? I think that is a reach. Especially when it was most likely JS and his friends who made it up. Please look up how JS's mom discusses how he would be talking about events in the BoM years before finding the 'golden' plates. So it was about 5 years of trial and error writing with some buddies to make the book. You should do an episode on the hundreds of anachronisms and how to explain those away like tapirs are actually horses or something. From the steel swords, and chariots to elephants- it is a clear work of fiction.
@chadwright1006
@chadwright1006 Жыл бұрын
Actually what you understand is NOT the point of the video. The errors had nothing to do with theme or chronology. It is obvious from your comment that you are coming from a position of extreme bias ("Most likely JS...," "made it up," quotes around golden, "clear work of fiction."). And if you want to get into anachronisms, that could be dangerous for you. In the 1830's a list of over 200 anachronisms were made by detractors of the Book of Mormon that "proved" it couldn't be true. Over 70% of them have been removed from that list because they have been discovered to NOT be anachronistic in the intervening time period. So you COULD wait for the remaining 30% to admit there is something there. But any argument about anachronisms actually is evidence FOR the Book of Mormon!

Have you ever considered the Ethiopian theory? The BOM was written by Ethiopian Jews and never published (until Joseph Smith). This solves all the anachronisms. The Land South is Africa. The Land North is The Middle East (Asia). Narrow Neck is the Isthmus of Suez. All migrations are back and forth between Africa and Asia just like the Bible. Lehi was commanded to escape Israel. He settled in Egypt and had a dream to return to the Garden of Eden. According to Ethiopian Jews, this is in Ethiopia. They believe Genesis 2:13. Compare Jeremiah 44 to Helaman 3. Jeremiah is speaking of the Jews being destroyed in Egypt. This is what Lehi sees in the dream. He is commanded to return to the Garden of Eden in Ethiopia to avoid this destruction. Then Helaman 3 is speaking of returning North to Egypt. The "treeless" land where they build with "cement" is Egypt. The BOM even mentions shipping timber and we know Egypt shipped Lebanon Cedar because they lacked timber. Read both chapters and look for the word "Desolation". Jeremiah describes Israel and Egypt as a "Desolation". Then Helaman 3:6 provides a rebuttal and more description of the word. Helaman knows returning to Egypt goes against Jeremiah so he must define the word carefully. Now look at an internal map of the Book of Mormon. Where is "Desolation"? Imagine the map is Africa. The River is the Nile and the Narrow Neck is the Isthmus of Suez.

My conviction of the truth of the Book of Mormon gives me freedom to look more critically at its authors. In particular, lately I've taken on some skepticism toward Zeniff. The more I engage seriously with the Book of Mormon as what it claims to be, the more I see the patterns of human behavior and human limitation that bring it more fully to life, and amplify its power to nourish my soul and change my heart. I don't want to open up controversy about the geography, but I believe that the old simplistic hemispheric model was caused by a less critical reading of the Book of Mormon: a hangover from the Protestant culture of Biblical inerrancy whence the core of the early membership had come, enabled by the Industrial revolution and the ready availability of really good maps. I don't believe that Mormon had really good maps. My reading and understanding is consistent with people who were ignorant of a lot of the science and technology of geography and transportation that we take for granted.

I'm certain there is 1000x more than what I, or anyone else, has come across. It's human frailties on BOTH ends (the BoM writers AND those who interpret what we are looking at today) that have caused the vast majority of the controversies that SEEM to be standing in the way of total acceptance and harmony! You're stretching, those mistakes (weapons of peace) are errors in dictation nor of the writer of the plates. Joseph can't say scratch that to oliver or the scribes without outing himself as a fraud. So he keeps going, whats more likely? That mormon or moroni spent all the time creating the plates and writing on them and make a mistake or that joseph lost his train of thought and tried to correct himself in the next sentence? Besides, if we go with the way that Joseph described his translations, one single character in the plates amounted to several paragraphs worth of English words. You're telling me that a boat shape symbol didnt have the sail long enough and thats how we account a mistake like weapons of war for peace? Ridiculous.

Your so-called Mormon prophet Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormon claiming to be "inspired by God." But such is NOT the case. There's no scientific evidence, there are countless corrections, contradictions, errors, plagiarism, and anachronism found throughout the Book of Mormon. Also, the Book of Mormon is written in so called "reformed Egyptian" language. To this day, the Mormon church hasn't provided any shred of linguistic evidence for "reformed Egyptian" that makes up the Book of Mormon. So why do you believe in something that doesn't exist?

@@AlbertJLouie Bro brings up anachronisms 🤣The anachronisms help bring evidence that Joseph could not have made it up. There were about 180-200 "anachronisms" when the book was first published. That means in Josephs time he said 200 things that were contrary to his time. How many now? 34. That means about 160 things were said that people would claim were false. That means Joseph would not have known they were true at his time. Yet 160 have been proven true with less than 1% of archeological digs done. And out of those excavations only 10% were dug. That means less than 10% OF 1% proved Joseph right on about 75% of his "lucky guesses" just wait until we dig up 5% and prove all of that list wrong.

@@AlbertJLouie There is no scientific evidence that Christ walked on water, rose from the dead, healed the blind. Yet it all happened. Only way to prove it is through witnesses. There were 12 witnesses of the Gold Plates (including Joseph) and 4 of them (including Joseph) saw the plates with an angel. The 8 others saw the plates and Joseph was not rich enough to afford or make such plates. And almost all left the church. But you know what? they kept their testimony and even went out of their way to tell people that if someone claimed they denied it, they were lying. Then some later came back to the church. If it was all fake why would they not expose it at the best possible time while they disagreed with Joseph and got excommunicated from the church? Want the answer? its simple. Because it is true. And to claim there have not been corrections to the bible is just insane. The amount of stuff that has been lost through translating is insane. And if you disagree with that I suggest you do some research. And plagiarism?? They are literally quotes dude.... Christ quotes other things in the Bible so Christ must have plagiarized 😱😱

It's more likely this was Joseph's dictation style. (More likely -- meaning the hypothesis with less conjecture or fewer assumptions). He made corrections as he went along. On the other hand, there's no reason to think that the ancient authors would have made their first draft on metal plates. They would have worked out all of these mistakes before starting the laborious process of inscribing on metal.

I guess the list of assumptions depends on perspective. From where I sit, the list is much longer. All of the following would need to be true, but have not been established with sufficient evidence IMHO: the Christian God exists, angels exist, Jews are among the ancestors of the Native Americans, horses and chariots were used in the pre-Columbian Americas, magical powers exist (such as healing, seeing treasure by looking at stones, etc), true churches exist, and many more. On the other hand, the naturalistic view of the origin of the BoM assumes only that Joseph wrote a book. Yes writing a book is impressive, especially while convincing everyone that you're not smart enough to do it on your own. But it also happens all the time. People are creative and write things.
