I’m on my 4th stripe on my purple belt. And your point on late stage defense is so right. With white and blue belts, I’ll give up my back, or get myself in a bad position to work. Helps so much. On the flip side I’ll use them to hone in systems I’m working on before I try that shit on the brown and black belts lol

Perfect, I think you will see a lot of growth compared to your training partners that do not do that. Good Stuff!

If i had one bit of advice for a white belt, it would be to know what an underhook is and fight for it. Because in the majory of situations, having the underhook is advantageous. They wont know it now but later on they will learn its a path to the opponent back and protects your own back.

Great advice. This should be taught like shrimping. Day 1!

As a whitebelt myself , I learned under hooks are key from my brother blue belt always saying it. Once he engraved this , it made me waste so little energy and be safe in positions, basically leveled my game up by a point

I couldn't pass "dirtbags" butterfly guard, so I started playing it. This was about a year ago. I still can't pass it 😂
