He overdid the pronunciation, "I love you" does not sound like that. He shouted the words. In my experience, you have to be at the door of a tram or train before it reaches the station. People let you out if you are at the door, but they wont wait a few seconds whether someone might come. No one cares to wait for a tourist who does not know how to behave in public transport.
