Hi Chelsea! Thanks for the videos but there are a few things I need to clarify. Firstly, the usage of "must" and "have to" is a bit different from the ones used in British English. It is about internal and external obligations. The American use "must" for external obligations while the British use vice versa. Secondly and unfortunately, we only have one sound for "v". While teaching "v" and "w", I always give the examples of "vet" and "wet". Yet, the students cannot differentiate them. Lastly, as far as I know, rather than saying "it is cold here", "it's cold in here" is used more if you are talking about indoors. I am not a native speaker though and you can correct me anyways: :)

All good points and a few notes about them: 1) Must vs have to => Most Turkish people do not know the difference between "must" and "have to", and this includes the English teachers themselves, which leads to an over (zealous) use of must. Even though I have always been practically correct in my usage of these two words, I had not realized it until you pointed it out. Turkish people usually substitute "should" for "must", so next time you hear a "must", treat it like a "should" and it should fit better. => In my own understanding, "must" sounds like either a serious or an urgent situation that needs to be responded from that moment on. Another use is about probability or guess as in "you must be a college professor, you talk and behave just like one". "Have to" on the other hand is a general obligation that needs to be followed, often (but not necessarily) associated with some formal requirement. 2) W vs V: Guilty as charged, even though speaking English practically all my life. The reason is simple, we don't have any W sound in Turkish. It's not difficult at all, it is just cumbersome (Like "ü" or "ö" for Americans). 3) Here & There Most Turkish people do not understand the true uses of here and there, and they equate them with "bura(sı) and ora(sı)". When they say "Here is beautiful", they actually mean "This place is beautiful" (to be literal) or rather "It's beautiful there" (as commonly said). To be more thorough... O: That O-ra: That place (root) O-ra-sı: That place (regular) O-ra-yı: That place (object) O-ra-da: In/on/at that place (there) O-ra-dan: From/out of that place O-ra-ya: To that place If you switch "O" with "Bu", it becomes "This place", so on, so forth...

There's also three other mistakes, one that even I make sometimes, even though I'm a native speaker of both languages. The first one is the omission of articles, i.e. "I ate (the) rice on (the) table". This seems normal for Turkish people, considering Turkish lacks articles. I've always heard Turkish people use "special" instead of "private". You'll hear Turkish college students writing essays about their special life. %99 percent sure this is because they're just the same word in Turkish, "özel". The one that I also make is using "we" when the other person is stated. My mother would always tease me when I said "We went to see a movie with Eren". She'd ask "You, Eren and who?" and it took me awhile to learn to say "I" instead of "we".

Turkish does not "lack" articles, we just don't have them. It is not needed in that language, it is not a "lack of" situation (i.e privation). Latin doesn't have any articles either. Bahadır Ateş What I saw in the UK, people are not aware about the adj., adverb, conjunctions too (not all of them of course). They just practice in daily life similar as Turkish people. If we ask what the conjuction means, I am pretty sure that lots of people don’t know it. It is not only Turkish people’ thing. The main problem is that translating the language in Turkish. hahah as far as I know we don’t even teach “have to” in school and just explain “must” as the word to be used in case of obligations. I don’t know why though 😂. Also about the pronunciation problem of W, we call the letter “double V” in Turkish not “double U”. And that’s probably the reason why many people can’t pronounce it properly 😂

When I'm speaking it's generally ok, but sometimes a "d" slips out instead of a "th" and don't get me started with that "w" sound... countless times I said "ve'we" instead of "we've" and "wiev" instead of "view" like... so. frustrating.
