During my attempts to play every beat-em up available in MAME, I discovered "Undercover Cop", years ago, and man what a blast! I didn't realize the shared heritage it has with Metal Slug, but it makes sense! So cool to see it running on Mister!

R-Type Leo is one of my favorite shmups personally. And In the Hunt is a masterpiece just on pixel art quality, but it is also a very nice game.

@@VideoGameEsoterica Also Gunforce is the only M92 game I actually played in an actual arcade (and had a blast, although spent many coins and didn't progress beyond the second level). I don't know why most of the Irem M92 arcades were so rare where I live. We always had plenty of Capcom, Konami, Data East and some earlier Irem arcades, but not M92 for some reason. I think this relative rarity and the fact that Irem wasn't porting those games to computers or consoles ensured that they became arcade hidden gems.

Keep an eye out for some Amiga monitors like Microvitec's M1438s and as well as some 24khz to 31khz monitors like the Multisync KM153R. You SHOULD be able to score some 24khz monitors from old manufacturing facilities and factories there. They tended to use Pc98s to run their machinery. No joke.

Irem also had such upsetting sprite artwork. Upsetting as it was so detailed and it worked so well with their titles like R-Type or In the Hunt. Yet the details could be very unnerving. Not a bad thing as it was also combined with such detailed animation in both fore and background.

Played in the hunt yesterday for the first time. Really spectacular. One question. Are you sure the slowdowns were that big in the arcade? I know the slowdowns from Metal Slug, but here from time to time it gets really slow... like when you fly through the rockets at level 2 for example....?

Cool vid, initially not to hyped as i am familiar with both in the hunt and leo! But def less so with the beu’s, the other non working shmup and the run n guns. I was surprised you didn’t mention the ‘relatively’ recent release of undercover cop on….snes? Will have to google that one myself! Also hook the movie always avoided it as i heard it was horrible but ran into in on tv randomly (the good old days of channel surfing) years ago and was at least somewhat entertained. Ofc ymmv…

Concerning U.C. Cops, are you playing the re-chipped version of it (changing out ROMSETS to avoid censorship)? I own this board, and had to EEPROM write my own chips to patch back in uncensored portions of the game, as the American release is apparently 90% of the actual WorldWide/Japan version. I also own GUNFORCE: Battle Engulfed Island, and like yourself, I'm more of a fan of GUNFORCE2. That said, I'd love to see 'Desert Assault' from DATAEAST on the MISTER one day, as that board is very sensitive to EMI.
