In this video I restored an old Button machine! I found it on a flea market and just couldnt resist. The condition of the button machine wasnt that bad, but it didnt work anymore, since it was totally stuck. So I disassembled this old button or badge machine and restored every part. I started with getting rid of the old coating, by sandblasting and using paint stripper. After some filing of the aluminum body, it was time for some powder coating.
After that we had some steel and Aluminum rings left. I restored the steel rings and protected the metal with some nickel plating. The Aluminum rings were just cleaned on the lathe machine, and after that i put them in a special Aluminum Cold Bluing Bath, to make them look nice black and stop them from oxidation.
Some other Aluminum parts were Quick blued with an quick aluminum bluing agent. After reassembling everything, the machine works perfectly fine and I made some buttons! :-)
I hope you have fun with the video! If you have any questions on the used tools, materials or the processes, write it in the comment section - i´ll try to answer as soon as possible!
If you want to support my channel hit the like, leave a comment, subscribe and share my work. It helps a lot! :-)
Thanks for watching!

When you restore things, you restore memories, My mother was a "button maker" when young, before getting married. I remember being a kid and reading that in her id card. She had a very similar machine you have in your video (a german one) and I used to play with it when I was 4 or 5 years old. Now I am 49, she passed away 10 years ago, and this video, believe it or not, brought a bit of her back to me. Thanks for that.

A new Mister Patina video ? Time to put the kettle on, coffee anyone? With the weather we are experiencing this week here in Normandy, I'm going to watch Mister Patina deal with a rusty machine instead of attempting to fix the outside ramp . It makes more sense than trying a balancing act on a slippery ramp and stair a few :meters above the long thorns of ancient rose trees and granit rocks. Thank you for giving me an excuse to come back inside, Mister Patina!

@@MT-uu5ln Aluminum doesn't rust, so bluing isn't to stop rust. I'm assuming (because I don't know for sure) that the 'bluing' for Aluminum is actually anodizing which makes the Aluminum tougher. In fact, anodizing makes Aluminum Oxide, which is so tough that it's used to make sandpaper. Regular aluminum is soft and easily damaged.

Right, perhaps Caesar’s words held more might, but had he had the opportunity to watch an excellent renovation video instead of messing up Europe, he wouldn’t have had to be murdered to ponder his next best quote! 😎 @Mister Patina, I am not entering the competition, by the way, all I want right now is for the house project I have to go ahead, as it is for a good cause very dear to my heart. It's perfect as always. By the way your work inspires people everywhere. Yesterday I was changing transmission oil for my car and fixed the car jack .disassembly cleaning then putting together. Thanks to you and your great craftsmanship.
