@@Jet012 Archie Bunker said "colored". When referring to TV sets, most Americans used to say "color TV" and I assume most Brits said "coloure TV". Of course, the last time I heard either expression was in the song "Money for Nothing" in which Scottish/English/Jewish/Hungarian (yes, that was his ethnic background) Mark Knofler was quoting a rant he heard in an appliance store in Long Island, NY.

17" in a 3 to 4 ratio is larger than a widescreen of the same diagonal measurement. 17, 19, and 20 inch are same size psychologically. It just depends on how rounded the edges are. This is basically the size of larger screen portables throughout the CRT era, so most of you have watched TV's of this size, even if you're fairly young. In 1952, the 21 inch TV came on the scene. Basically a 21 inch TV, for reasons explained above, is the equivalent of 23, 25, and 27 inch CRT TV.

yep those were the days.....waiting for your TV set to "warm-up" when you turn it on.....only 3 network channels......ABC (American Broadcasting System), CBS (Central Broadcasting system) and NBC (the National Broadcasting Corporation). You usually had to adjust the antenna for each channel.......and that heavenly aroma of hot nearly burning wood too. Tv cabinets were made of wood. There were no transistors yet so TVs used large hot vacuum tubes. If you had the TV on long enough you could smell the wood cabinet getting hot
