Glad to see Bob Varsha is still alive 71 in 2023. And great to see this racing. It took place before I realised what I loved and was missing. Now I can't get enough. Thanks

Epic cars, Bob Varsha on the stick, it doesn't get any better than this.

Bob Varsha has remained the same great motorsports announcer for almost 30 years. His style hasn't changed a bit, just some grey in his hair.

3:45 - Varsha introduces Tom Blackaller. Not many people remember him let alone know that he was a well respected America's Cup yacht racing helmsman as well as a race car driver.

Misterbones Thanks for posting. I was at this race and video brings back great memories of the track and the race. The original track layout was superior with its higher speeds. For comparison, back in 72 at Laguna, I clocked Mark Donohue in the Porsche 917K/30 at 1:01 almost every lap regardless of traffic. Amazing racing back then.

So cool to see David Hobbs racing. I only know him as an F1 Broadcaster.

That Riverside clip at the beginning reminds me...the finish of that race used to be up here on KZbin several years ago but I haven't seen it in a while. Hope it gets reuploaded sometime soon!

Funny how Blackaller and St. James keep interrupting each other several times ;-)

31:27 The Buick Hawk was not on a island by itself, the Nissan used the same March chassis while its Buick (GM) V6 was that same as the GTP Corvette. Parts where readily available. The problems with both the Hawk and Vette was the V6 turbo put out so much torque that CV joints, half shafts and spindles would go bad. Later the BMW GTP effort would use the same March chassis.....

Nah, the Nissan used a Lola chassis. I think in Europe/Asia they mightve used Marches though.

The Buick and Corvette GTP's didn't have the same V6. Both were made by GM, but the Buick engine had smaller bore spacing than the Chevy engine.

Shocked to find that the Nissan is using bias ply tyres and not radials. In 87?
