Quite smart of him to use a sports example here. He could have used some typical textbook example about finance or something equally tedious but it looks like he made an effort to look up something that would be relevant for his target audience. If more teachers made an effort like this I'm sure they wouldn't have to put up with "Subject XYZ is so unnecessary" "what do I even need this for?" "I'm never gonna use this in real life"

Because Jordan shoots more 2s than 3s percentage wise, his total accuracy is closer to his 2s accuracy. Basically he does safer shots. Jordan looks to have significantly better movement and ability to find scoring chances, although playing more time per game or having better teammates can skew this aspect. Miller is the better shot though.

@@markuscordova2246 No. I know nothing about basketball apart from the basic rules. I just meant to show the proper nuanced way to interpret the statistics, and I wanted to highlight how much info we can learn from so few data points. It's a fascinating example.

@geoffiida33154 жыл бұрын
If you’re still wondering what’s going on here ... bringing the players’ 3-pt% into the mix is going to reduce each player’s overall shooting %, because they both shoot worse from 3-pt land. But, Miller takes a bigger hit to his average, because his 3-pt% is weighted more than Jordan’s. Miller takes far more of these lower-percentage 3-pt shots (relative to the number of 2-pt shots) than Jordan does, so their “lowering” effect on the overall average is much more impactful to Miller’s average

From this statistical data, we can comfortably conclude: that Miller's accuracy is higher than Jordan's by 1% in the 2Ps and by 9% in the 3Ps. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. Woo?
@AnimusInvidious4 жыл бұрын
But the more important point is that Jordan's total accuracy is better because he strategized when to take which type of shot more optimally.

American sports are popular globally but not universally so, more like an underground popularity in many countries. Miller retired 15 years ago and has no global brand (unlike Michael Jordan) so unsurprising a group of kids who were at most a couple years old when he retired don't know who he is. Pick a sport you don't watch. Can you name all the people who were big in that sport 20, 30 years ago?
