Another problem with the trash example, although its not so relevant from that graph, but can be for others, is that there might be no indication of what part of the 2D picture you should read the measurement from. There could be the handle of the lid that sticks up. Do we read to the lid handle, or the lid itself?

Surely with the last one, the fact that the point that is being used to indicate the vertical axis is also fuzzy - top of the lid, left side, right - is also problematic?

I always hated it when maths books had graphs that were so false/incorrect. I know we have to learn/teach maths properly, but I consider it really dishonest to include deliberately incorrectly drawn graphs in maths books - especially when trying to convey an UNDERSTANDING of things like LOCATION of stationary and turning points.
