To those that talk about calculators, these are high school students and some are not good at simple math. Also gets them into the practice of entering the numbers correctly in the calculator for harder quadratics.

Look up "polynomial long division" and then "synthetic division" I'm sure you will find lots of good explanations.

You don't even have to long divide the cubic you get... just regroup to get (x^2-1)(2x+1), then D of S

it's on purpose, it's a common statement that a calculator is a mathematician's best friend and i don't understand why you're so pressed about it
