Stalin once said that establishing communism in Poland is like saddling a pig, so this part is wrong. Poland since the midle adges had nobles democracy system. In the late XVIII-th century Poland became modern democratic constutional monarchy - the main reason that all three neighbouring powers, stuck in medieval feudal system, combined forces, also with Targowica anti reformatist Polish movement and Poland disapeard from a map, until...Napoleonic wars. Most probably France and Napoleon would became alies with Poles like in proper timeline, and together fight with Brits. BTW. Russians would fight back Poles even with orthodox consent, to this day you can read in old orthodox churches there "God save us from a fire diseases, floods...and Poles", so apearently we ware not nice at all, so this timeline is not so likely ;)

Communism was unpopular in Poland thanks to its association with the Soviet Union, which was the successor to Russia, which Poland hated. Poland will become communist without Russia. Also the reason Poland helped Napoleon was because it wanted to be free from Russia. A free Poland would not help France, especially not an expansionist France. and it sure as hell won't agree to the continental system, since there's nothing liberal minded about that. That's the reason Napoleon lost in the end, after all.

Interesting concept. That's a tough case, as Austria and Hungary wouldn't be exactly what they used to be, and it may be difficult to get the people excited for the Habsburgs in an era dominated by Fascist and Communist ideologies, that'd be the only forms I could see it happening, and it would likely end up a German puppet if it survives Anschluss.

Invade neighboring states, slowly moving southwards 3. Start pushing for a European Union 4. End up in conflict with Russia and win 5. This alternative history of Poland is very well thought out and absolutely possible if the cards were dealt that way to Poland, but they weren't. And they didn't align in Poland's hands that way for one absolute reason, namely the nation of Poland, the Polish people, are ruled by the Father of Jesus, God, and God seeks to hone the Poles into a people exuding the Christian way of life through truth, honor, and righteous. Without the struggles, the suffering, and all the other highs and lows the Poles have gone through, you would not have the heart & soul of a Pole right now. All I can say is go to Poland and meet the everyday ppl. You will be taken aback by the kindness, politeness, and general good nature of the common Pole. This honor to be a Polak and exude these traits of honor and Christian love is passed on from generation to generation with each generation understanding the Will of God and His Love presented to man by Jesus Christ. Yes, negative traits in individuals exists. I'm not saying every single Pole is a saint. Poland has its share of thieves and murderers, but it's a much smaller demographic compared to the rest of the world. It can be compared to Japan and other oriental cultures in which honor amongst the family is above all. You shame the entire family when you do something immoral. So, God will continue to mold His followers into the kind of men Jesus would be proud of. The history of Poland made these people and it will be very interesting how they have come to the world stage with their unique honor and see how they grow in the world with Jesus as King of Poland.

The Polish authorities pressured Orthodox Ruthenians (Ukrainians) to convert to Catholicism (that pressure is what led to the foundation of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, as a compromise for Orthodox who wanted to keep their traditions). This in no way makes them unique or worse than other powers though. The Russians pressured many Ukrainian Greek Catholics to convert back to Orthodoxy, and even in America there was in the past significant anti-Catholic sentiment.

Most Polish kings before the Vasas were tolerant of all beliefs. There were Jewish and even Muslim communities with full religious autonomy. Jagiellons themselves had Orthodox relatives throughout Lithuania and Ruthenia, and people intermarried often. Even after the Reformation, when the western Europe was overrun by religious wars, Polish protestants practiced openly. The Brest Union happened because the Orthodox bishops wanted the same political priviledges as their Catholic peers, namely seats in the senate, and Zigismund Vasa, being a fanatic was happy to offer them a deal - enter a union with Rome and you have it. There wasn't really any Polish authority to pressure anyone, because at this point the Commonwealth was already an anarchy, albeit still somewhat functional. Each noble ran his own estate as he pleased, and I'm sure some of them were pressuring their subjects, but that was not a rule of law. Building and maintaining churches was an expensive practice, so the most common mean of pressuring the populous was simply the nobles funding the churches they preferred.

Poland's downfall was lack of centralization which made the kings impotent, unable to effect reforms and ultimately unable to control the magnates who effectively ruled as per their own motivations. What it boiled down to was that the royal coffers were almost perpetually empty and thus the kings could very rarely conduct any measure of reforms, let alone meaningful ones. With the addition of Muscovy, already being a far more centralized state and Sweden, a state where the king was truly the head of state, into the commonwealth, one could assume that the position of the king would be strengthened enough to force through political and economic reforms. With the Polish-Lithuanian-Muscovite-Sweedish Commonwealth fully controlling the Baltic grain trade, it would multiply the new commonwealth's economic prospects exponentially. Leading to an ecomomic and demographic boom. The PLC already had a very large population by the standards of the 17th century. With the application of the same benefits to the Muscovite lands, one could argue for a population growth similar with that experienced in the fringes of the PLC in the early 17th century, in other words, a population boom. The only thing keeping the area from truly becoming a center of growth was the geopolitical interactions between the PLC, Muscovy and the Tatars which essentially forbade any stability. Now, with a common front presented against the Ottomans and their proxy state, the Crimean Khaganate, the area would see far more prosperity. Not only that, but finally, an effective strategy could be undertaken to check if not undo the threat of the Tatars seeing as both the PLC and Muscovites no longer have to worry about the other and so they could combine their efforts. Not only that, but the PLC alone fielded 60,000 at Chotyn in 1621 against the Ottomans. And they won. With the addition of the Muscovites, one could envision a possible army of 100,000 if not more. That is, by all accounts a check against Ottoman power. Furthermore, the Russian empire effectively started westernizing in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. In this scenario, that modernization occurs in the very early 17th century. Also, in the 17th century, the PLC, Sweden and Muscovy (Russia) spent vast resources fighting eachother, preventing their own development and pillaged each other mercilessly. To give a better perspective to the matter, Poland's population would not recover from to pre-Deluge levels until the 1770's and one only has to visit museums in Stockholm to see how much they plundered the PLC. Unification would create the inverse effect. So let me recap. by September 11, 1683 (siege of Vienna) we have a Commonwealth that, although still politically not as centralized as Louis XVI's France, still has has the ability to effect Political and Economic reforms. It would have a population of over 30 million, matching that of the Ottoman Empire and eclipsing that of any other European state. It controls the flow of food in Europe (the baltic grain trade) and has a military that can go toe to toe with that of the Ottoman Empire ( PLC could field up to 88K men in 1688, Russia over 100K, Sweden a further 30K). That is all up to 1683. Keep in mind that Prussia came about as a direct consequence of the deluge. That would not happen so the Prussian lands would come under sway of the commonwealth. That is again, millions of citizens and wealth. The policy of religious tolerance would have a twofold effect. Internally, it would allow ideas to spread and a far more liberal Russia than historically represented, potentially curbing some of the crippling insurrections that it suffered in the 17th and 18th centuries as it would grant people more freedoms and greater happiness. Which in turn would see a boom in it's population and economy, allowing for faster and earlier colonization of Siberia. On Sweden's side though, it would probably prevent it from entering the fray in the 30 years war. Significantly curbing Sweden's prestige and territorial gains. As well as not allowing for French subsidies. That would probably cause the Catholics in the HRE to have the upper hand in that conflict, strengthening the imperial crown. In such a scenario, it is conceivable that France would actually have to get in on the fighting for real this time and that could be a nasty protracted war. The Commonwealth, as it did in reality, would sit it out, religious neutrality demands it. It would happily send mercs though. Lots of mercs. With Western Europe in dissaray, it would stand to reason that the Ottomans would see that as an opportunity to strike at the HRE. Again, the PLC would have no choice but to intervene. Not only it's only real rival is seeking to expand it's power, but also religious neutrality has it's limits. In this case, Islam is not part of that agreement. There would be mobilization. The Ottomans could not win against 60K at Vienna, Mohacs and Zanta. They would fare no better against more. The Ottomans would be pushed back earlier and harder. They would be hard pressed not only in central Europe but also on the steppe. That amount of pressure could lead to internal pressure, rebellions and further accelerating the decline of the empire. The benefactors of this would be the Commonwealth and Hapsburg. Who would claim Hungary at that point is hard to tell. The Austrians would obviously do as they did historically and do their best to repeat it. The Commonwealth on the other hand, would have far more of a stake in establishing dominion over Hungary. Not only because of historical ties but also because it would have the means to do so this time around. In this regard, it is not impossible to see a Commonwealth incorporating the reunified kingdom of Hungary. In any case, with the lack of any other rivals in the vicinity, the Holy Roman Empire would be stuck between France and the Commonwealth, which by this time could very well be a behemoth in terms of population and wealth. As is often the case of a nation stuck in between rivals (as happened to the historical Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) it would see itself squeezed in a vice, fighting wars against France and the Commonwealth often times at the same time. Fighting against wealthier, bigger and stronger opponents on multiple fronts can only have one outcome. Eventually, the borders of France would reach deep into the Reich as would these of the Commonwealth, desiring to incorporate Bohemia, Bavaria and Saxony for their wealth. Going any further than that would be far too speculative. Would there even be a French revolution? What would the war for Spanish succession look like? With Germany missing as a catalyst for world wars, would the US rise to dominate the world? Would there even be a need for a Karl Marx? What would Europe look like with two dominant forces controlling the continent? Would we see a form of a cold war? How would England interact with the mainland, seeing as it's ruling monarchy has been pretty much German since the 18th century. With France arguably far stronger in this timeline, would the French have intervened to help the Jacobites? Would then the Commonwealth side with the British Empire? How would the Italian peninsula look like? They were always spared intervention because of power dynamics but would it apply now? Would Poland into space? And they say hindsight is 20/20. Looks pretty murky to me.
