keeping the inactives around is a good source or resources. they continue to produce grain, obsidian, stone and silver. Go and milk them twice a day. If there are like 10 of them, then you will reap resources much faster than gathering them. You use no stamina, and if there are no troops at their sites, you don't have injuries or kills.
