I particularly enjoyed your assured handling of the rumpled jacket, the choices you made about the hat ( putting the red band on, moving the color into the blue scale to harmonize, tightening and losing the focus of the edges). These aesthetically motivated decisions and actions are what make the painting a work of art rather than a highly competent rendering of a photograph.

Agreed ! I have watched many of these videos over the past 18 months or so. Eventually, I realized that the wet color is much darker than the dried color, so what you see being put on initially is not what appears five minutes later. I’ve started watercolor painting myself, and this is a basic lesson you have to experience ( I still don’t quite “get it”)

Excellent piece of art. Love the portrait subject and the finished piece of art. Can you please recommend a set of watercolor? There are so many brands out there that it's overwhelming to pick one. Budget isn't an issue just don't know which one to pick from all the choices out there.
