You are so right. It admittedly takes some patience to understand a Bruckner symphony. The repetitive attributes are deceptive, but affording it focused attention and time pays off. ‘Some of the most beautiful and profound passages in music.

I love Bruckner's music. I never get tired of it. In fact, is my favorite composer. After him, Bach and Mozart. The 2nd movement of the 7th symphony always makes me cry. And the 3rd movement of the 9th is completely visionary with incredible orchestration that surprises me with how he can obtain so incredible textures and tones.

The second movement adagio to Bruckner 7 is one of the saddest and most beautiful pieces of music ever written.
@ablack7777

Sometimes the feeling seems like sadness, the beauty is overwhelming. All of the moments of our life can be called up, and the profundity of the mix of joy and despair can seem like sadness, but it all works together for good. The journey of our life is not for us to understand, not now anyway, but there will come a time when we can see clearly. But if your mind and heart are right, it is all victory. In Bruckner we sense the magnificence, the glory, the potential of the human existence.

This is a snippet from the 9th adagio. That movement, to my mind, is the hardest emotional ride of any piece of music, and I always dissolve in tears at the end. The only thing that comes close is the ending of 131.

You played this moment from Bruckner 9th symphony so lovingly. It is much harder to play than it sounds to a casual listener. This is a place where the 2nd violins have a tougher part than the 1sts. I've loved this Symphony 9 since I was sixteen years old.

We are comrades, then, in the love of Bruckner! The start of the movement is the violin theme that leaps from G to Ab an octave higher, an interval of a minor ninth. I've never heard another piece with such a theme. A friend I introduced it to said something like it was the most searingly melancholy musical exhortation he ever heard (that theme opening the final movement). At age 16, my stand partner was 24 years old and said I'd aporeciate Bruckner more and more as I got older. I'm 71 now, and she was right. I point you to Sergiu Celibidache's Bruckner No. 9. Have you discovered it yet? Slower tempi, you can really hear the parts, how they weave together. Interesting to read all the listener comments there. Peace to you and happy holidays here at the end of 2023.

Recently performed the scherzo from his 7th symphony. Before then, i really didn’t care much for his works. However, as we did more with the scherzo, i listened to the 7th in its entirety. Now, he’s one of my top composers. The climaxes are simply brilliant, and each diminishment is very intimate and beautiful. Definitely one of the best composers out there!

The expansive nature of the melody in the first movement is exhilarating in the very least. At best it drives your soul to amazing heights!! It has accompanied me for the last 55 years of my life (which have flashed by at amazing speed!) Fortunately I’m still a jet pilot, the speed and the heights and the views are still only a microcosm of what immersion into the ‘experience’ of Bruckner can bring you!!

I just love epic scale symphonic works, they feel kind of adventurous, damatic and powerful with a wide armonic and chromatic range, military rhythm with druams winds and brass with reflexive, profound and serene adagios but interesting, also I love music fhat feeds my imagination, that`s just my kind of music, so I like Brucker and I think the main problem that some listeners have with his symphonies is that there are many version of one symphony because audiences in it's time didn't like it so Bruckner needed to do revisions on his symphonies so there is no exact version of one of them, so choose what you like more, but some revised versions are better, it also depends if the performance cautivates you as it is in my case, so yeah Brucker is a little bit misunderstood.

Definitely misunderstood! I'm a classical music aficionado and I did NOT like Bruckner when I first listened to his symphonies, which seemed thematically weak and meandering to me. I was wrong!!! His 7th convinced me of his genius. Like Bach and Myaskovsky, Bruckner incorporates complex melodies and harmonies, although his contrapunctual is definitely weaker than Master Bach. Patience and persistence pay off with Bruckner. Keep listening 🎶 and there's a point where something happens in your aural world, and you begin to hear and enjoy the wonderful structure. Unappreciated in his Age and now in ours. Thank you for that amazing violin 🎻 motif!!!

Sixth, while far from his best, is a very good introduction, as the symphony moves much faster than other Bruckner symphonies. The Bruckner sonata (aka. The three theme sonata), and the complete dedication to organic growth is missing, which picks up the pace and make it flightier and digestible. First after that, then seventh, and you're set to explore yourself now. Also, calibedache is not for beginner and some do not like him at all (like me). Hope it helps.

Bear in mind that this is a counter-melody: it is a hugely inventive one but not intended to be heard on its own. If you have failed to appreciate it from this hearing, beautifully played, you might like to hear it in context, underpinned by sublime harmony and orchestration in its role as a decorative embellishment to the main thematic material. It's from the Adagio of his 9th symphony.
